I have a small online business selling jewerly and other handcrafted items (not on eBay) and have been thinking about using PayPal. After reading some horror stories, I am becoming very skeptical. I know that PayPal is owned by eBay, and is not a bank, allowing them to basically make up their own rules regarding customer accounts. That info is listed in PayPal's user agreement. Has anyone had trouble outside of eBay? Has anyone had a good experience? Thanks for the feedback.

I am president and main manager for a college sports related non-profit corporation. We use PP to collect money and have not had any problems. (I assume you know they charge about 1.5% on transactions -- when deposits are made, AND when you withdraw money from PP).

I have read websites such as paypalsucks.com and I was concerned, as well, but we haven't had any problems receiving donations, nor transferring lump sums to our bank.

My thoughts after reading paypalsucks.com were, that most of the frozen accounts were semi-suspicious of illegal activity and PP wasn't taking "any chances". If your business is US only, and doesn't even have the slightest hint of impropriety (as does our organization), then you should be OK.

Any more questions -- e-mail me (see my profile).

Never, and I have used them many times for transactions outside of eBay. I do not know what type of horror stories you have heard. Other than accepting PayPal for your payment, the one thing that you will have is there is a percentage fee that they do take out for using their service. They have rules and guidelines that they adhere too, and they also do not change them without notification of the change. You also have the option of using their financing if your company sells anything for amounts of $250.00 or more and offer the service to your customers. This is a service that is owned and operated by G.E. financial institute. This service will allow the customer 3 months to 1 year interest free to pay off their purchase. You have everything at your fingertips for your paperwork as a running account is done on your PayPal account. I also have been a seller on eBay for 6 years, and I have never had a problem with PayPal. As far as getting your account hacked into, get the best security software for your site. It will keep anything from happening. This could happen using any site when buying and selling if you are not protected against hackers.

I used paypal and I never shopped at ebay or a seller. I signed up for it because there is a forum similar to Yahoo answers called mylot in which they pay you to discuss a lot. You have to be more thorough there. Any way, I thought there was no such thing as a site that would pay people to chat on-line, but once I got paid I was so happy. However, the administrators told me to sign up for paypal which I did. I was on my fourth month until the paypal administrators told me that my security question, password to log in, and email has been changed. So someone hacked into my account and stole it. The paypal adminsitrators won't do anything about it. So, I had to go to my bank and switch account numbers. I know that someone will probably used that account and try to steal my money. After that incident, I can't be on mylot anymore because I am not giving away my new account number to paypal. I deactivated my account from that forum.

I have used paypal outside of ebay and never had a problem, It works great, there is a fee using it but i believe it is worth every cent.. People feel more trusted going through paypal because it is such a known name and it has been around for quite a while

I have been using it with my online business and no one has ever complained, that is how i get all of my payments..

We use Paypal in addition to our merchant account to sell our ebooks and advertising, and we've had no problems with them. As long as your transactions are on the up-and-up -- e.g. minimal if not altogether 0 chargebacks, minimal fraudulent transactions -- Paypal is not a problem.

I've never had a problem using Paypal for the last 3 years -- and like you, I got so scared of the horror stories about Paypal that we avoided it like plaque only to find the stories don't apply to us

I've used it outside of Ebay as a "buyer" if you will at two other places. It was a positive experience very similar to using it on Ebay, but I've never been on the other end as a seller. Sorry.

I've used it to buy off of ebay, buy from online stores, buy from an individual and to sell my jewelry at http://360.yahoo.com/noggin_mama to individuals and I have never had any problems.

PP is a reputable company you always have a few disgruntled customers start hate sites about any company-ignore those-listen to the general public.
