is it about ratings? Seems like there were some fantastic singers not picked and some average singers that went thru to the final 24. What do you think?

Well in reality TV almost nothing is 100% real. I feel like the idols are chosen mostly for their singing, but there are other factors as well. They must be somewhat likeable (or at least good TV) they must be diverse from each other, they must be diverse from last season's cast. All of this factors in to who is chosen. Most of it is still the singing, but really, do we need another blonde counrty singer? Do we need 12 caucasian slim brown haired men who all sing the same kind of music? This probably worked in favor of a few contestants, maybe against some others.
So it is mostly singing, but some of it is just the standard reality TV stuff.

I suggest you read the book Chart Throb by Ben Elton. It is a satire on the Idol/X Factor shows. The story tells how good singers are often dumped from the show in the mid stages, so the more controversial/entertaining/stupid "artists" can help drag in the ratings. That's what it's all about. Money.

Its a popularity contest. The producers dont really care about talent, they care about people who would make good tabloids. Like that one guy that Paula hooked up with. He was not a good singer and only made it because he would make a good story. If someone is an average singer and average looking they are not going to stand out like Ruben and Clay did.

Why are you worrying yourself over a show like that? Its a Tv show, of course its about the ratings. Its about making money and they make money by getting good ratings. Wake up.

I think american idol sould pick me instead..or it changes its name into World flop Idol or Terror Idol

I was amazed some people did/ddint get through. I think some of it is for ratings.
