Just paid a mechanic over $3k to do repairs on a car I am selling. he recommended a friends detail shop to make the car look great and paid the friend $200 from the $3k I paid him to detail the car. It came back no better cleaned than a $15 car wash. The cup holders hadn't been touched, nor had the visors, vents, door seals, center console, under the seats, door mats etc. I took the car back and showed him what I had found and he was very "kind" and said he would gladly do it over; he said that it had been SO dirty (totally not that dirty) that it would take him three detail jobs to get it up to par. He said bring it back in the next couple of days. I called him TWICE to set up a time and he never took or returned my calls. I have since had a friend do the detail work out of town and I need advice from someone with knowledge on my rights. This happened nearly a month ago. HELP PLEASE:)

Assuming it's a legit business, report that detailer to the Better Business Bureau. Since the job is already paid for and a month has passed, there's really nothing legally more that you can do. For $200, a lawsuit would probably be a waste of time and money.

While the mechanic's work may have been good and he is legally not responsible for what his "friend" did to your car, he shouldn't have recommended the man if he did shoddy work. I would return to the mechanic and explained what happened, and ask him what he thinks of the situation. That will alert him to the problem so he can correct it in the future.

Speaking from detailing experience, since I work with show cars on a regular basis, the detailer lied through his teeth. A high-quality detail is a meticulous process that may take up to three days to complete, but ALL good detailers get EVERYTHING on the first try. I've never had one yet that claimed they needed to schedule three appointments to completely clean just one car.

It seems you were badly mistreated. I'm sorry you had to go through this experience. Please be certain to tell people about this detailer, because they get work largely through word-of-mouth, and a bad recommendation may cost them more money than they ever fleeced you out of.

I know it's a little late. but the worst answer to bying a car is by going to the dealership. They always rip you off no matter what. A car they might be selling could be 5,000 dollars more than it really should be. Now some might not agree, but bying a Salvaged car really saves a lot of money. Even if it's already fixed and looks just brand new, the Salvaged title just knocks of a lot of money of the list even though it's almost exactly the same as the ones in the dealership. So next time you want to by a car... get either a salvaged car or by it off a previous owner. Can really save a lot of money that way on a good car. Hope this helps

Make a big sign telling other people what has happend,,like:" This Detail shop ripped me off",,,,,or something to that effect.
Put it on the side or back of the vehicle in question.
and park near his shop.
If he stops and asks you to cease the bad advertising,,then tell him,,,when he has fullfilled the job he was paid for you will do so.
you could also put pressure on the mechanic the same way,,,since they are friends,,,he may intercede on your behalf.
Or finaly,,,,you can just walk away and put it down to a lesson learned.

Ma'am who did you pay the same guy that charged you 3000, go to him and say his friend ripped you off. Don't call the loser on the phone. You and two of your largest male friends need to go talk to this nice man. No violence just talking with support.
If I recomend a detail shop, I know the guy and he does great work, any complaint that I hear about I take care of by either doing the job myself or talk to my detailer with two of my largest male friends in tow. You could alwayd go to small claims but then you need pictures of the poor work or a witness.

Take your complaint to the local Better Business Bureau. They will take the information and contact the business. Most business owners do not want the stigma of a bad BBB report so they will do what's necessary to fix the problem.

there may be nothing you can do since a detail that supposedly did or didnt happen a month ago is going to be your word against his.

i would just threaten the shop with reporting them to the b.a.r. or just telling others of your bad experiences which can kill thier business.

you're kinda screwed, unless the mechanic agrees with your assessment and gives you back the $300 (not bloody likely)
