Is it strange that we idolize stars like peyton manning for playing a game that most people stop playing before they reach adult hood.

I feel that way about most people, especially actors/actresses. Not too long ago, Actors were considered "unclean" and were outcasts. The only contribution they give to society ie entertainment, which doesnt exactly keep people fed or heal sickness or anything like that. Now they are essentially the royalty of the US. Its disgusting the way people flock to them and idolize them. They are just people with better luck than most of us, in the end. At least Sports stars have skills in sports that most of us couldnt match, but that still doesnt make them demi-Gods.

People are wierd, it's true. It just makes sense to idolize someone who has an ability that is not only fun to watch but also extremely rare. Sure looking up to scientists is wise, but it's also not very entertaining.

I say no. We often forget the life lessons that we learn from playing sports. Our love of sports and sports heroes is ingrained in our DNA. From the time when we were living in caves and hunting Woolly Mammoth, the best athletes have always held our fascination.

It is not weird that sports stars are placed on a pedestal, as most of them work really hard to play professionally. However, it is odd that we should set stars above other professions- such as those risking their lives for us or researching cures for diseases.

Yes it is weird. The media are mostly responsible for that as they are always prompting them.
What do they contribute to our society other than some entertainment?
