Where do you live will be a factor on a destination? Also, what would you like to see? Obviously if you live in Florida, you wouldn't want to go to Orlando or the keys....If you are in the NW?...maybe someplace warm and dry. In the tundra(Syracuse NY to Bismarck ND)?, someplace warm and sunny...like Phoenix or Tucson. My preference...I would take an AMTRAK to the opposite coast and let them take care of the driving and you sit back and enjoy the view and ride! When I get there, rent a Harley and take a ride up the coast. Affordable and easy!

Depends on where you are at and what you like to do. I have found just getting out of my usual surroundings tend to be enough to make a relaxing get away.
So may I suggest:
Vegas, LA California, New York, Htown Texas, or New Orleans, Louisiana
Vegas: Cheap flights, cheap food, lodging on the strip with no reservation for $75 a night (Motel 6) Many things to do outside of gambling (i.e. shopping, shows, site seeing, warm climate). Plus you can drink alcohol on the streets.
LA California: Hotels around 75-100 with no reservations (not big name ones) Try the Glen Capri in Burbank (it has famous roots and is 75-85/ night) Other things to do in the area for cheap are whatch TV shows being filmed, shopping, great food variety, large asian district, the beach, etc. If you cannot find it here than nothing will satisfy you. J/K
New York: Hotels are varied in price, really depends on the area. Sites, shopping, great food, I spent 12 days consecutive and did not hit all the basic spots. I did it on the cheap too! Great Italian food (authentic!) Maylaysian food. Clubs and bars are hidden in little spots all over. Best part you don't need to rent a car. Fly in to JFK or LaGuardia and you are set. You can even go to NJ if you get bored (it won't happen) New York Stock Exchange, Central Park, 5th Ave, etc.
Houston Texas: Big state, I would only suggest going here if you have travel means (rental car) Houston has a lot to offer, Kennedy space center, the beach, ethnic cuisines, etc.
New Orleans: Great area, lots of culture. French Quarters hotel 75-100/ night. Best food you will ever have. I could get fat down there! Shopping, street entertainment, Cafe Du Monde origional coffee stand (icon for coffee lovers!) the beach, live music, drinking on the street! Etc.
Ok so here's some ideas. As you can see I like the south mostly. Also It is winter time. Got to go south if you want to thaw out!

San Diego, CA! It's beautiful this time of year, in fact I just checked on the weather for today and the high will be 75! There are all kinds of things to do there, Sea World, The San Diego Zoo, Legoland, The Birch Aquarium, Wine Tasting, shopping galore and the list goes on and on! Because February is an off peak time of year, hotel rooms are cheap and the attractions won't be crowded! Have a great time... I wish I could go!
