If you have that little pop-up window telling you that viruses are multiplying on your computer so you should "Click Here" to get rid of them - Don't - It's a scam. You probably just need to clean out your computer a little.
1) Run your Disk Cleanup Utility (Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disc Cleanup)
This will clear your temporary Internet folder.
2) If you have an AV (Anti-virus program) run a complete scan with it. If not, you REALLY need to purchase one like Norton or McAfee if you plan to use any computer on the Internet or with E-Mail.
3) Download, install and run a program called Ad-Aware from Download.com. Ad-Aware is a free program that will remove most tracking cookies and spy-ware from your computer.
4) If you use Microsoft Windows make sure you have all the updates. (In Internet Explorer go to: Tools > Windows Update & follow the instructions).
Do steps 1, 3 and 4 monthy and this will keep your computor clean.
Lastly, some common sense fire prevention:
- Never open E-Mail from people you don't know. ESPECIALLY if it contains an attachment. Add them to your spam list.
- Hackers and such use lures to free porn sites to infect your computer. Don't click on blind links you aren't familiar with.
Hope this helps you.
