So, if a white guy is singing R&B, does it still count as black music??? Because right now Robin Thicke's CD is my favorite. There are lots of black people who listen to music other than Hip Hop & R&B. There are a lot of rock songs that I like, there are even a few country songs that I like. I don't think it has anything to do with race. It is more of a cultural/ sociological thing. If you aren't really exposed to different things, you are less likely to become a fan.

As far as awards shows... there is no such thing as "black awards". People don't get awards for being a certain color. I'm assuming you are referring to things such as The NAACP awards, BET Awards, Latin Grammy's, etc.
The NAACP awards were started long ago when you would never see a black face on an awards show. BET Awards... thats a television channel. Therefore, no different than the MTV awards. Nothing racial there. And just because its Black Entertainment Television doesn't mean much being that the station is owned by white people. Latin Grammys are more catered towards Latin Countries. Stuff that you really wouldn't hear much about here in the US. And, you will still see white people on each of these awards shows.
But, white people have the Country Music Awards. The only black face you may see on there is Cowboy Troy. So, they have him... we have Eminem, Justin Timberlake, etc.

Do a little more research please.

Not all blacks listen to rap just like not all whites listen to rock and country . I like all type of music , my best friend is (white) she loves rap , i prefer jazz and i listen to some rock songs i like hip hop , country, and so on . What 's your point ? I wish people stop putting labels on people seriously ? How would like it if told you do all Hispanics like salsa or meringue ? I was under the impression they had music awards with different categories or type of music ?maybe I'm wrong ?

It sounds like she's a racist. First of all you are entitled to your own personality. Just because you choose to act a certain way is no reason to think you are anybody but you. Tell her if she can't respect you for who you are maybe she had better not come around anymore. This kind of BS is the same thing all racist do, they try and fit people into neat little boxes so they can feel ok about themselves.

How do you know what type of music all black people listen to? There are far too many of us for a judgement like that to be made. No one assumes all hispanics like Mexican food.

My family grew up on rock and classical music and so did I, so that just happens to be what I prefer. I can't stand most rap and hip-hop because I'm not interested in rims, grillz, and ho's.

I have seen black singers in metal bands, black people at the same metal concerts I go to. I think its a stereotype that black people only like rap. There's a black country star back in the day that sung some of the coolest songs.

I think we need to stop categorizing music as colors. Black, White or whatever it's all music people. So to answer your question, why don't Black people listen to country, punk, metal? I suspect that Black people like to listen to songs that have a certain rhythm to it. A good beat.
However, as a Black person and knowing many other Black people, we do listen to "white" music. I love all types of music. Classical, Metal, Rock, Alternative, Rap, R&B, Salsa, Pop, Soul, well you get my point. Anything that sounds good to ME is good music no matter who made it. BTW, I even like country music.

I have a few "typical white music" favorites. Though generally from movie soundtracks. But I know quite a few black black people that are heavy into rock. Heck, there are probably more black rockers than there are white rappers.

Country Music awards are for whites no? Never seen anything but whites on it. I thought it was interesting that in order to torture inmates in Guantanamo, they'd use heavy metal. I like rock, a little bit of country- and no, i'm not white. =)
