I took a pregnancy test a couple weeks ago and it took a about ten minutes for anything to show up and there was one solid line and the second line was very faint. then a couple days later I took another test and it took about 20 minutes for anything to show and it was only one solid line!? I am not sure what to think of this. I know I should probably take another test but I wanted to get some advise. I want a baby so bad! Please help!

Well, when i took the test it the first line didnt even show up right away either... it was a first response test that my mother in law had at her house. and the second one was also a first response test that my friend bought for me. Im wondering if it might just be the brand? Has anyone had a problem with First Response? I have never had this happen before.

You must read the test within the timeframe it specifies.

If it goes over that time and gets a line later- this is an evaporation line and you are not pregnant. (Usually more than 10 min)

So never read the test after the result time specified because it isn't accurate.

Good luck!

On any test that I have taken, says to not read the results after 10 minutes. When I had my pregnancy test, it took almost 10 minutes for both lines to appear. That was at the doctors office. You can always call the number on the back of the box and they will ask you some questions about it, then tell you if they consider that a positive or negative. Most tests give results in 3 minutes or less, so anything over that could be false.

You probably saw an evaporation line the first time. It's really common for women to see these after a long period elapses and assume that they are pregnant. That's why they tell you to toss the test after about 5-6 minutes.

I didn't test a definite positive until I was about a week late. I'd suggest you wait until then and use the first morning urine. I did notice very faint lines, which got darker and darker each day.

Also take care to use a sensitive test, as all tests vary. The dollar stores usually carry ones that test at 25 mIU/ml hCG, which is perfectly fine. The books say that it may take up to 2 weeks after a missed period to get a positive, so if you're past that and still negative, you might consider calling your doctor, but your most likely not pregnant.

Honey, there is a reason the box says do not read results after 10 minutes. You more than likely are not pregnant. Go to the doc to confirm. If you were preggers, it wouldn't take 10 or 20 minutes to show up. This is from the website peeonastick.

The line appeared after the 10-minute time limit. Is it still positive? No. You can't rely on any test results that appear after the time limit. There is a reason the tests have a time limit-- and torturing us is not usually that reason ;) If a line appears in the "results" window after the time specified in the directions, wait a couple days and test again. HPT's are rapid assay diagnostics, which means any results appearing after the "rapid" time limit of 10 minutes are invalid-- after this time, natural changes in the chemicals may cause lines to appear. Best of luck with trying!

When I first took a preg test, I had one dark line and one faint line. I took another test a couple weeks later and the results were the same. A week later I went to the doctor and they confirmed that I was pregnant. So the best thing to do is to go to the doctor and find out for sure. Good luck to you and I hope all is well for you.

it could be that your not taking the test right. The best thing that I would do is get a test then pee in a plastic cup then dip the wand down into it. I would count for about 5 seconds then take it out and set it flat on something. Wait and see what the results are. Every time I have taken a test and done it that way, I had the results in less than a minute. Hang in there and you will be pregnant if you aren't right now

My doctor told me - the only mistake you could ever get on a home prego test is a no, meaning even if there is a faint line - you're pregnant. If a home test shows up with a plus - there's no way your not pregnant. Use your earliest morning urine - levels of hormone in this urine are greater detected - some tests take up to 5-8 minutes, anything over 10, don't read. If you see a faint line, making it a plus....congrats girl!

If you read the instructions carefully on the test, it says to disregard any changes the test may have after ten minutes. (I believe is the time limit). If you were pregnant and the hormone was strong enough to show up, it would not take ten minutes. My friend thought she was pregnant, took a test and it was positive as soon as she peed on it. If you are still unsure, then you should either wait a few days and take another, or go see your doctor.

I took 4 pregnancy test this time and all of them came up neg. If a test is read after 10 mins its null and void!!! But you can get a false neg. I know from experience. This is my fourth pregnancy and like I said I took 4 and they were all neg, come to find out not only am I pregnant but its twins. Just keep trying it will happen!!! Good Luck!!

the only way you can be certain is to take some more tests, you can get free ones at the family planning. I have had many "faint" lines and only once it was wrong. they say that it is not unusual to have a wrong negative test but it is almost unheard of to get a false positive. GOOD LUCK. And remember if its not now it will be when the time is right.
