You can get free hosting but the domain name registration you have to pay for. If it is the credit card requirement that kept you from registering your domain, try 50webs.com you can pay for your domain registration using PayPal and give you free basic hosting.

Free, can't happen. But for cheap, yes!
GoDaddy has domains from $8.95/year
PageWaiter has hosting from $20/year

you can get one at yahoo but it does not work that well it would be better to buy one!
