We are traveling to Cancun in June and are going to stay at RIU Cancun. Are there any pointers or suggestions you can give us about the night life and things at the hotel?

RIU Cancun is located in the hotel zone. Cancun is shaped like a 7 and your hotel is on top of the 7. Calmer water than on the long part of the seven. Close to shopping and clubs. A very desirable area. Most of the hotels have staff that take guests to the clubs in the area. I would look into that once you arrive.
I suggest you go to tripadvisor.com. You can read all the reviews and also ask questions on the Cancun forum.

Have fun and safe traveling.

The hotel is wonderful....great food....good location......good service. As far as nightlife....here goes!! You are within walking distance to party center where everything is happening at night. You are only a short bus ride to Margaritaville and Pat O'Briens....located in the Flamingo Plaza. Clubs: Coco Bongo (a must), The City, Bulldog Cafe, Dady O and Dady Rock, XX Bar, Congo Bar and Carlos and Charlies. There is a small billards bar located on the street behind Hooters......laid back...good place to go to drink a beer and shoot some pool when the other gets too wild and you want a break. The hotel has pool activities going on at the main pool and there is entertainment nightly. Make sure you get your reservations in at some of the resturants that require it when you arrive....you won't want to miss that food. They keep your room stocked with alcohol....no room service. You have a great view of both sunrise and sunset.....beach is beautiful. I really don't know what else to tell you. There is a nice little shopping center directly across the road when you come out the front doors of RIU Cancun. Everything you really need is withing walking distance...except Margaritaville and Pat O. Margaritaville is best on Tuesday....Pat O on Wednesday. Make sure you check with the social activities people to find out where they are taking the hotel guests at night...VIP seating and entrance if you go with them to the clubs.

Ive stayed at the RIU Cancun 3 times in the last 3 years and it is my favorite hotel in the world. RIU palace is good to but it shares the same property as the RIU Cancun its just more expensive because the rooms are nicer and the Palace has 1 extra restaurant.

Its in a good location....but you might get bored of the stuff near you....ask the locals about Mercado 18....there are more shops & better food...its cheaper than the area around the hotels. Theres a bus that takes you there...I cant remember which bus number but the hotel ppl or locals can tell you! The bus is only a dollar ...or maybe less.

There's some good suggestions above. I'd suggest that you compare the prices and facilities to others in the area to make sure you get the best value.
