you need to help him stop, but there is not a very good chance you can do it on your own. get him to rehab if possible. all you can do is continue to be there for him. help him to find other ways to get his mind off the pain. let him know how much you love and care about him.
its not your job to make him quite, its your job to comfort and love him..thats it.

GET OUT!!!!! RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND DO NOT LOOK BACK!!! I was told the exact same thing, only from an alcoholic, I was this way when you met me....(by the way I'm female). I stood by his side through, his 3rd D.U.I. arrest (only they were far enough apart not to go on the books as 3 that counted together) and 3 yrs. probation and loss of D.L., I had to drive EVERYWHERE. Jail time, rehab., probation officers at the door! Needless to say he became physically abusive. Oh, but I was trying to "fix" him. It cannot be done. PLEASE I beg of you, ask the whole entire world this question!!!! There is not one single person who has been through and survived that LIVING HELL who will not tell you that it negatively changed their live's FOREVER AND TO RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN! Don't get any more deeply involved or commited, it's a wonderful sign that your patience is wearing thin. That puts you on the RIGHT PATH. God Speed, Girl. Wow! I just read 12 other answers to your question. Who are these people that are presuming to tell you to love and comfort someone who could quite possiblely KILL YOU?! It is NOT your responsibility! It is his Family. It is his friends, all of whom probably have wised up to his crap and already alienated him. Or will ALWAYS enable him. First come TRUTH and HONESTY which you WILL NOT get from an addict and not even someone who's been clean for awhile. Observance is the best truth. I know it sounds like not giving him much credit, but....you have to save YOURSELF FIRST.......he can say he's found the Lord, he can sware he's quit, or promise he will......and then one day say "I'll never quit". You should get on the web, call your local rehab. and find out the stats on how many make it long term and how many fail. When I say long term, that's considered anywhere from 1 yr. on. BEWARE. This is your life. I believe you'll be truely SHOCKED at stats on everything you need to know right now.

first he isnt your b/f -he is an addict-that is his first love-counseling will only help if he is willing to do what is right-excuses are with every addict-and it may hurt but your an enabler-i been both places so im not throwin stones-I repented from my life's even one lie=sin, and let Jesus into my heart to save and help me-now he is my best friend-its a new beginning, have a great day and prayin for you too. he needs proffessional help ASAP. He will go through some withdrawls that will be hard for him to handle alone, or with you. They will need to ween him off the drugs, by different drugs...well it all depends on which ones he is addicted to. He is probably destroying his liver. If he wont get help, and you have done your part to try to make it happen...you need to leave him. dont waste your life, because he has no desire for his own

Yes! You should help your boyfriend quit using drugs and other harmful medications.
Love is the strongest and most powerful emotion in the world; so strong and powerful that it can allow you to face all risks and sacrifices in the world together.

He needs help. My friend kicked her bf out cause he wouldnt stop. She did and for them to have alife together he had to too. He chose pills. One day he will realize but its a hard road to quit.
I have had many friends die from pills.
When I was younger who would have ever thought you could be addicted to pills? But most people I know are.

It usually takes professional help to get over an addiction like this. Just be there for him. It could get really ugly.

if he is hooked on pain meds he should check into a drug rehab place . i think you will find his empolyer has to give him time to get fixed up as it is the law.
i dont suggest you attempt to fix him because you cant and most likely he cant do it on his own so pro's are needed to deal with the withdrawl.
