I have been curious about a few thing about Mexico. I have never been there but hope that my kids and I will be able to one day to visit my in-laws. My questions are not jokes.

1. Does Mexico have public assistance like we have here in the U.S? Medicaid, food stamps, section 8. Im thinking no because every one comes here "for a better life." But I want to ask any way.

2. Do the Mexican people have some sort of ID where higher power can track everything they have and own? Like we have Social Security Numbers. Just curious because I asked my BF and he said they dont have anything like we have here. All the Mexican people i know usually have the same last names like Alverez, Henandez, Rodriguez, Chavez, Martinez. Im just curious as to how that works in Mexico.

3. Do a lot of women in Mexico work? My BF told me that where he is from most women stay home to wach the children while the man works. I dont really like that idea. Women need the same opportunities as men.

His family does own a small farm.

Big deal.. I spelled Hernandez. My name gets spelled wrong all the time.

Im only asking these questions because I want to know. No one needs to get upset because i spelled a last name wrong. If I knew the answers to my questions then I wouldnt be asking them. I have lived all my life in Mexican neighborhoods in Chicago.

Why are you so rude to me "Hotcakes?" I only used those last names as examples to explain myself better. Maybe you live in a small world because you are so dam rude. You dont know how to be nice to people.

90% of my family still lives in Mexico....a lot of my female relatives either are teachers, work in their family-run restaurants or in their family-run businesses. Yes, Mexican women work....just like American women. If you go out to eat in any restuarant, or go to the mall, or go to any clothing/shoe store, or go to any office you will see a lot of women working.

I don't think all Mexicans have the same last names...but yes, Martinez, Chavez, Sanchez, etc. are very common last names in all of Latin America and Spain. It's kind of like Jones and Smith in the US and English-speaking countries. My parents are both Mexican and my mom is Figueroa-Fajardo and my dad is Huidor-Pena. Except for Pena, the other last names aren't very common but they are Mexican.

Sorrry, I don't know about the other 2 questions.

1. Mexico does have public assitance. People that come here for a better life are probably leaving there small farm, where there is not goverment assistance.

2. Mexico has voter cards. You know, I think your world is a little small and that's why you only know the last names you mentioned. BTW, its most likely Alvarez & Hernandez...

3. I am assuming you BF is from a small farm in the middle of no where. If you live in the city it is different. The observations you are making or stating are related to people that are from farms and not the city.

About the women staying home... Not in all parts... It's like a tradition in the south of Mexico, however things are changing very fats over there...

Good luck to you and your BF... :)
