I used to play the Sims until I figured out that I could live life in reality and not virtually. There's always something better to do than playing video games. That's saying a lot coming from someone who has grown up playing video games for at least 50 hours a week. Now I'm broke, just starting college, don't know what I want for a career, and I feel like my life is already half over.
Unless you're going to have a career in video game production, playing them, in my opinion, is a big waste of time. I will be 30 next month and I decided last year that I was going to do something about my life. Video games are like marijuana, they make you lazy and unmotivated. Granted, they are better than smoking cigarettes to relieve stress, but it's better to do them in moderation.
I haven't run across any free games that resemble the Sims but there are a few that are more exciting like Silkroad Online, Eve Online, and Legend of Ares. They are all F2P. (Free 2 Play)
