It's an inheritable form of arthritis characterized by excess uric acid in the blood, resulting in extremely painful inflammation of the joints. While it typically starts with the big toe, that is not always the case. It can be treated medically and, for some, changes in diet are also effective; however, despite the fact that a diet high in purines can bring on a gout attack, diet isn't necessarily or always behind the scene and so changes to it may not be of consequence. Gout is typically an issue for males, and occurs with much less frequency in women.
It's one of those diseases that you hear about, and then hear that it's pain in the big toe, and think (basically): so what? But it's extremely painful. Some members of my family suffer from gout and I'm always taken by surprise by how debilitating it is.

Gout is a condition where uric acid crystals build up in the body.
This can happen in the area of the big toe and cause a lot of pain.
Our foods contain purines; some foods are higher in this than others.
The doctor may place you on a lower purine diet (of which they will usually provide you a list of foods to avoid. There is also medications that can lower the uric acid in the blood
Here an alternative way to cure gout?

Gout is a form of rheumatic disease caused by uric acid deposits in the joints. It can affect any joint -- the fingers, wrist, elbow, knee, ankle, or foot. The most commonly affected joint is the big toe.
Uric acid is a waste product in your blood that is removed by the kidneys and eliminated in urine. The body's overproduction of uric acid or the kidney's inability to eliminate it efficiently can cause an excessive build-up, known as hyperuricemia. Over time this excess uric acid can deposit in the joints where it forms into sharp, uric acid crystals that lead to pain and swelling in the affected joint. A gout attack occurs suddenly and may come and go in intensity over a period of several days
