Pain is the what we experience when stimuli exceeds the ability of our nervous system to tolerate it. We experience pain to remind us that we are alive and encourage the desire to remain that way.

Pain teaches us what not to do. Like if a child does not experience pain, they do not learn that touching a hot stove hurts them physically, because they do not feel the pain. It's the bodies way of signaling us to stop what we are doing, because we're harming ourselves, and it's the bodies way of signaling there is something wrong, so that we may find out what it is exactly.

Emotional pain though, I'm not sure. I believe there are a number of reasons. Like if we didn't feel pain when we lost someone, well we'd probably have a lot more deaths on our hands, and if we didn't feel pain when we get out of a relationship, people would always be in the relationship for the wrong reasons. With love, comes pain. They go together, whether we like it or not. Without the other, the other has a hard time reaching it's best ability. You have to give the risk of pain, to be able to experience love.

so that we know that theres something wrong. Pain is a pretty good indication that something is horribly wrong.
This applies to any kind of pain. It should probably be an indication that you need to stop and figure out what's wrong and fix it.
If you didn't feel pain. For instance, if your mind would just buzz or blink red when something was wrong, it wouldn't seem quite so urgent to stop and fix the problem. Pain kind'a forces you into fixing what's wrong.

I've even heard this explination applied to the general "pain of the world" in a philsophical sense. It's usually used as an argument for Christ. (Christ being and correction to our pain).
C.S. Lewis has an entire book on this topic. It's called "The Problem of Pain." It's worth looking up. anything C.S. Lewis does is worth looking up, in my opinion.

There are 2 kinds of pain.

The physical pain and the psychological pain.

Physical pain is a normal reaction in our physical activities

Psychological pain is created if we cannot get what we want and

If we cannot get rid of the things we don't want.

Psychological pain is the effect of misunderstanding our desires.

Psychological pain will not happen if we can see the falseness of our likes and dislikes.

Pain is the result of something bad that happens to us, either physically, mentally, or spiritually.

We don't need to experience pain, but many of us do. However, there are people who manage to stay out of pain quite nicely.
We need to learn their secrets!! Staying out of pain is a VERY good idea!

Pain is all in your head.

Signals from sensory nerves sent to the brain register as pain. It is there to signal one of a problem, prevent movement and further damage, promote healing.

Pain exists in the brain. You can still feel "phantom" pains in a hand or other body part that has been amputated. You don't actually feel pain from the hand but the part of the brain that was responsible for the missing limb can still be activated.

Pain is necessary. Without it would we would not have warnings of dysfunction in our body. There are times when the body doesn't feel pain until its too late to do anything positive to heal, or requires more interventions that cause more discomfort to cure or repair. You experience pain though your nervous system that returns it to the brain, that notifies your that there is pain.

Pain is our body's way of telling us that something is wrong or that you are injured. For example, if a burn didn't cause pain, you would never know when to pull your hand off of the hot skillet and your tissue would continue to be destoyed, causing permanent damage and possible infection.

Ten Thousand Angels

I sit under the ten thousand angels in the night sky.
I watch the tear drops fall from their eyes.
I hear them call out, saying "why"
"Why is pain felt deep in the heart?"
"Why are we meant to play this part?"
I sit under the ten thousand angel as they fly.
Above the clouds; into the golden sky.
