If he has a hernia and it is not an emergency but he is in pain then he can take aleve several times a day for pain and still continue to work, if it is a job that requires heavy lifting, there are other jobs, lots of jobs that he can succumb to in the meantime that does not require lifting..if he has to he will have to go to school and change careers for now. I know it sucks but life sucks when you don't have medical care. I would look to the county for medical care if he has none. Alot of times the county provides medical care to low income or no income people. He doesn't have to let the place of employment know he has a hernia. If the hernia ruptures then any hospital will do surgery as it would be an emergency and they legally cannot turn him away.

There is no organization or charity that donates $21,000 to help an adult get surgery. Finding a doctor that will take her without insurance or on a payment plan will not completely resolve the problem, because this type of surgery probably cannot be done at the doctor's office. It probably has to be done in a hospital, which means that you also need to get the hospital to offer a payment plan.

He needs to talk to the hospital about setting up a payment plan. There are also lots of jobs that don't require lifting so his hernias should not prevent him from getting a job some place.

He didn't have a job at the time he got the hernia?
Seems las though he has more keeping him from working than just the hernia.

Hernia surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her Hernia and colostomy surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare .The Price for Minimal Invasive and Laparoscopy surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the cost she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. They arrange Hernia, Appendectomy, Thyroid and other laparoscopy surgery for foreigners in India.
I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as the Hernia, Colostomy and other minimal invasive surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

I have heard that in some foreign countries (India for one) you can get operations much cheaper than here in the U.S., the article I read said there is an over abundance of surgeons in India and not as much demand for them. Anyway you could look into that. You could also suggest to your son that in the mean time he got back to school and get an education or trade so he is more marketable.

Go to a city hospital and sign up for charity care and see a registered doctor on site that that will recommend the surgery. They go by your income.

Also I think your son is pulling you'll leg! 40 years old and you worrying about him finding a job? He should not even be your finiancial concern unless he is mentally retarded.Sorry!

Depending on his household income level, he may be able to get help from the county. Try Department of Human Services in his county (which may lead to your state's Medicaid). If this problem is making him temporarily disabled, he may be able to get some help by applying for disability. Hope all works out.

I HAD TO ARRANGE IT TO PAY IT IN MONTHLY PAYMENTS THEY ARE AS LOW AS 20 DOLLARS AND SOMETIMES THE HOSPITAL OFFERS DISCOUNTS IF YOU CANT AFFORD IT. AND IF HE HAS KIDS AND QUALIFY FOER MEDICAL HE CAN GET EMERGANCY MEDICAL AND WOULD COVER IT BUT IF THATS NOT THE CASE I WOULD GO WITH PAYMENTS.
