To those that think Japan has a right to do it, NO THEY DONT. The oceans belong to everyone, not just Japan. They have no right to deplete the oceans of every living creature because they like to eat anything that moves. It is THEIR fault they cant control their population and are overcrowded. Indigenous Alaskan tribes are the only ones that should be allowed to hunt ONE whale a year for cultural reasons. Japan is nothing more than a greedy slob.

They are an island. On an island environmental concerns like pollution, over-fishing, and deforestation, seem smaller when compared to overcrowding, job availability, and more over crowding. In addition, since they are so involved with the sea, having no land-neighbors, they like an only-child. They don't learn how to play nice.
As for China, they are a fascist communist state. their leaders want money and power. Their people: who knows what they want. I'm sure their government doesn't.

Japan, inter-alia, signed up to all the world agreements to stop whaling until numbers return to a sustainable number.
But the let-out clause states that whaling can be continued in the name of research. What a farce! Do Japan - or any other country for that matter - need to do research into whales or whaling after all these years?
Japan has got too much to lose with their massive whaling fleet, and they will continue fishing despite public opion.
It is amazing that Greenpeace - who have the nearest ship in the area - offer the whalers help. Just goes to show that Greenpeace are more humanitarian that the Japanese whalers.
(On a lighter note, top of the Japanese Hit Parade at the moment is a song - a rip-off of a Rod Stewart number, called "We are Whaling")

the difficulty is the whaling foyer in Japan has performed the propaganda conflict in a very smart style. In Japan, the problem of whaling is almost unreported and maximum jap do not even see it as a controversy. at the same time as the whaling foyer and is challeneged through international communities, they play the nationalism card at domicile to get public help and really denounce their accusers of racism. some thing about jap lifestyle looks to furnish them a conventional lack of appreciate for flora and fauna no matter if or not that is whales or different species.

First off, their ship was not on fire it was a signal flare. Second, there is nothing wrong with Japan or any other country hunting whales or any other animal, fish or what ever. They were put on this earth for us to eat and use.
