I understand this is bussiness, I am very angry with the Yankees assoc. I am thinking of liking the Red Sox. I beleive that if Giambi was able to play at least few games in first base, Bernie maybe able to be a DH. I am so angry . When Giambi, Damon, Abreu etc.. became a better yankee than Bernie? U can see I am MAD.

I think it's a blessing in disguise for Bernie, perhaps the Yankees most classy guy. I say this because I have heard him play the guitar and I (who have been on this earth a few decades) think he is so fantastic he really should have been a professional musician. In fact I think he's better than Clapton, Kenny Burrell (jazz), or any other guitarist you could name. So maybe Bernie will go off and do what he would want to do in his heart of hearts outside of being able to play. Or maybe another team could be fortunate enough to have him as a backup, but I'd say the chances are slim. I think the Yankees are making a serious mistake in not even taking him in as a coach. (And NO, I'm not a Yankee fan, just a guy who sees the combination of rare multi-talent combined with a great personality).

Sorry I_Lo but I'm a big Bernie Fan from way back and I say it's time to ride off into the sunset. His numbers have been declining over the past five years and his arm is weaker than ever. Base runners run on him all the time and that's not a good thing when you're in the game. Giambi could still play 1B but I would still like to see Bernie retire gracefully under his own terms. We need youth on the Yankees not the tired old veterans we've been keeping like Bernie and Tino and Randy and Roger etc etc.

You're right, it is Giambi's fault because he's incapable of doing anything positive at the 1B spot. I never liked the guy from the day he signed. All that being said, I think Bernie needs to retire, his time has come and gone and he should leave while the going is good instead of signing with a veteran team (hopefully not the Red Sox).

Chances are the Yankees will make Bernie into a bench coach. He's mellow and has leadership qualities, so he should be a good coach. As far as Mariano, I think he's gone. Contract talks are getting nasty between him and the Yankees, and there are a few free agent young reliefers out there. As far as Bernie, I think he has seen his better days, although I'm sure he could still bat .280, but I think the Yankees in that regard are looking to the future.

Bernie was offered only a minor-league deal with the Yankees and a shot to win a reserve role with the team in spring training. With Bernie's years and experiene he felt he deserved a better deal than that. Time will tell if Bernie relents and signs with the Yankees or moves on with another club.

The Yankees have addressed that. As of today Doug Mientkiewicz and Andy Phillips will be playing first base this year.
Giambi will be the DH.

As for Bernie there was just no roster space for him.

No true Yankee fan will forget him and all the great things he did for that team.
