Ronaldinho, he has great tricks, a great free kick, makes great passes, and sometimes plays defense. Pay close attention next time you see him play, he will hold the ball until two guys are on him, wait for one of his defenders to make a run, then play a sniper-like pass and make the other team look like amateurs. C Ronaldo is also a great player, but he hasn't been playing at his current level for very long. He has matured quite a bit since last year, give Him another year or two, then he may be at the top of the list.
How can Zidane be "the best football player around today" when he is not playing anymore?

It's hard to determine what is the 'best.'
In my view, you have to do the basics for your position, plus a liitle extra, be a good sport on & off the pitch and preferably be english ;-)
For a goalie, youve got to make saves. No exceptions, just making saves. Also you must organise your defence, and make the right ddecision at the right time. e.g. do you punch or do you catch?
In the premiership, I personally beliave (although I am a spurs fan) Jens Lehman does all those things. The only problem is he's not English, so for the englishman, Paul Robinson is good, but he makes mistakes. I would be tempted to also say Cris Kirkland, but he's only young and Robbo has experience. Internationally, no doubt about it, Buffon is the best, closly followed by Iker Casias.
A defender basically has to get the ball out the box. thats all. any extra is a bonus. John Terry is no doubt the best in the premiership, and Materazzi abroad. They are the perfect defenders because the get back, and forward if needed. Amazing
A midfielder must get foward AND back and must not be greedy. In the premiership there are so many. Gerrard and Lampard are brilliant, but are just outdone by Christiano Ronaldo. He has skill pace and ability to run with the ball. Arron Lennon is a good one for the future, but right now, Christiano is the best internationally, and Stevie G/Lamps are the best at the mo in the prem. Also Paul scholes is on form at the mo but he doesnt play for the 3 lions any more
The striker is the main man, so he must be on form all the time, like rooney. He had a bit of an off spell but now he is back. Andriy Shevchencko was brilliant for AC Milan, and Ukrine but its not going right for him at chelski. At the moment, abroad Ronaldo is doing alright, hes just a bit on the fat side. There arnt many OUTSTANDING payers abroad but im sure their all better than crouch!

Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho are the best players on the planet at the moment but watch out for Sergio Aguero at Atletico and Gonzalo Higuain who i think is join Real Madrid along with Fernando Gago.

Hi, i think people are answering who is their favorite player because ive seen people put Cesc Fabregas, Ronaldo of Manchester United, zidane, del piero,Van Persie, Thierry Henry,Lampard NON OF THIS PLAYER ARE THE BEST.
To me the best player means a player that can actually dribble 2 players or 3, kick the ball, run fast. so that pretty much takes out all the european players. The best players have always been brazilian and argentinians because they got magic. I think the best players out today are KAKA and RONALDINHO. and players to watch out for are MESSI AND EL KUN AGUERO.
I give credit to english soccer but anyone can learn how to play like them if u start early. But to learn what Maradona, Kaka, Ronaldinho, Messi or Aguero do you have to be born to play soccer.
Also watch for Africans.

Its still zidane.
You could argue ronaldo of man u is a star at the moment.
It should be joe cole.He had all the talent.
I think rooney will carry the mantle of best english player.
I like john terry but you can never pick a defender.
Im not convinced ronaldino is the best at the moment.
Sure most people will say he is but for me no.
Zidane is about to retire so that leaves buck teeth.
Best player at moment in world.
I don't think anybody stand head and shoulders above the rest.
Ronaldo, man u

C. Ronaldo - for Man U and Portugal. You can see a big difference when he's not in the team. He creates chances, draws defenders towards him which frees up another player, free kicks, headers, pace, skill and tricks on the ball, his response to jeers!
If he maintains his form and consistency, the world could be treated to a living legend in a few years.
(For you English fans blaming him for Rooney's red card in WC - Stop the crap - only Rooney should be held for that RED. Your golden boy is a tempermental spoiled 5 year old. Besides, your penalties were very poor - Lampard is sooo over-rated)
