I would think 2 trips a month spending 200-250 each time would probably cover a family of 4. Alot depends on what you buy and how much your family eats.
My guess would be most people fall into the 400-500 range for a family of 4 / per month.

We live in Missouri, have 2 adults, 2 children under the age of 4, one in diapers. This includes, cleaning supplies, paper products, food, pets, hygene and the like.
It was really tough when both were in diapers, and one had formula(special formula at that) and our dog was alive. Now it is really easy for me to have money left over most weeks.
We only eat out once a week.

We spend between $250 and $350 but that wouldn't include trips to restaurants.
