the idea of giving flowers or gifts is to show people how special they are to you..obviously he didn't think she was even worth going out and getting an original rose (pry $5)that had other greenery too..ewww!!

The questioner and most answerers are incredibly shallow.
He bought the rose using a chocolate. Why do you fault him for that?
I'd feel the same way if the rose were purchased new, picked from a garden, or bartered.
A rose, no matter how acquired, smells just as sweet.

I don't think it was cheap. I think he took the easy route, yes, but at least he was thinking of whoever he gave it too.
I guess I'm old fashioned in the sense that I'm happy if I get anything for holidays simply because someone had me in their thoughts.
