It's like this if are quite happy with XP then there is no need to get sucked into the hype and spending hundreds of pounds on getting Vista like the other sheep. If you are planning to buy a new computer then Vista will come pre-installed unless you want resource hogging features which have been ripped off the mac then there is no need to upgrade. I would wait and see the bugs ironed out first never buy a new OS in the first few months of release only mugs do that

Vista has been made because Microsoft have now fully realised how far back they are in terms of competing with Apple Tiger OS. If anyone has experience in using Tiger OS for Apple, they will notice that Vista has tried to match their UI but have did it in their own style. I still think Apple has what it takes to attract existing users from windows towards Apple. Vista is probably a little better than Windows Prof considering it is new and may have added features etc, but that does not mean it is useful for an existing windows user as it does the same thing as other windows platforms.

The Aero effects in Vista, DVD creating compatibility, more inbuilt games, advanced search engine, inbuilt Internet Explorer 7 & Media Player 11, the new look make Vista much better than XP.
Vista has much higher security and the administrator has a lot of power.

Vista has far superior security features, and an improved UI (user interface). There's a lot of changes 'beneath the hood' of the operating system that you won't see, but are significant. Some of which provide programmers and software developers the tools to create better applications.
Another plus is simply to have the latest version out there for the future. And presumably future superior software compatibility.

Vista is better point blank. The ones who hate vista are afraid of change and don't want to upgrade their computers to vista standards. It is a great jump in what you need to run vista compared to xp. The truth ain't speaking to much of the truth, he's just blowing smoke and giving thumbs down to those who say vista is better. A thumbs down is for a stupid and ridiculous answers, not because it goes against what you like. The truth is vista is better...

there are a lot of things that is better in vista than xp,but because vista has so many bugs its really hard to take advantage of vista, which makes windows xp better for the time being, one major problem for vista is that a lot of hardware wont work on it and the hardware companies have to make proper drivers for it,in about two years most hardware makers will have all the right drivers for vista,i bought vista a couple of days ago, but it didnt allow me to connect to the internet,i know that in a couple of months they will have that problem fixed.

The security is better (or more annoying, depending on your view). There are some neat features, but I am going to stick with XP. Microsoft is already working on Service Pack 1 for Vista, so it already has many bugs. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...I'm sticking with XP.
