i think insects make great pets, i have a tarantula, so i keep crickets and mealworms aswell,
you do have to remember that their not like a cat or dog that likes to be petted their more observation than interaction,
it's best to decide on an easy insect to look after you can get giant african land snails, which make good pets for kids, the trouble with things like crickets and mealworms is unless you are using them to feed somthing else you may end up with thousands you should look into breeding as well as general care
you can get praying mantis, beetles, millipedes, scorpions, stick insects there is a surprising amount of insects you can keep as pets.

Depends what kind of insect it is and who you are. I wouldn't want one as a pet!!

The best!!!

When I was little, I wouldn't let my mum kill the snails in her garden, so I went and picked them off, one by one - they reproduced and I had a huge plastic box full of snails, babies and snail eggs - it was ACE!!!! (Not much fun to clean out though!)

I also kept a silkworm until it went to pupa, after that I left the box with the pupa in it outside, and one morning it was gone. The moth had flown!!

Also had an ant farm as a school project...

I upped it to a tarantula called "Tatti" after that.

;-)
