if you go to your local hardware store you can pick up marine silicon it works great or if you don't mind paying a bit more for a bit less your local Kmart or wall mart should have fish tank sealant it works great the difference is you can use the tank sealant inside the tank wet and it still sets unlike the marine silicon it has to be a dry surface and air dries. Hope that helped

For glass tanks, it depends on the leak. If it's minor, drain the tank so that the exposed area can dry (if you have fish, you may or may not need to remove them, depending on how high up the leak is).
You don't need any special "marine grade" silicone - just some 100% rubber silicone (the type that is NOT mildew resistant). Buy it from Walmart or Home Depot - much cheaper that way.

You can then seal the leak and let it dry. Once it is cured, you can refill the tank.

However, if the leak is serious you will likely want to replace it.

If it's acylic, you won't be able to seal it, and will have to replace it.

If it's glass, you can buy silicone especially for fish tanks. If it's acrylic that means it's defective and therefore, not much hope.

Either way, the tanks structure has been compromised and you should replace it so you don't come home to X amount of gallons on your floor one day and all your fish dead.

Marine grade silicone sealant.--Make a trip to WalMart or the pet store.

You will need to drain the tank and make sure the area to be sealed is completely dry.
