Strict or Transitional?

Witch of them is the best to use (I'm talking about the HTML 4.01 standard)?

What are the pros and cons of each one?

Transitional gives you (the programmer) more leeway and freedom to use techniques that might not be supported by all browsers.

While Strict forces and binds you to the exact rules of HTML 4.01 and afford you no breathing room. Which *should* work on all browsers (save IE 6).

I truly think the best option would be XHTML 1.0 Strict or Transitional.
