it is realistic, if he makes the rest of us poor, he can claim,
victory over poverty. Obama would make a good President
when pigs fly.

Can we eliminate poverty. Sure we can, but a politician alone even the President cannot do it. It would take a commitment by every one of us who is not a victim of poverty. And while many of us may make that choice most people would not. Look at how politicians are attacked every time they even mention taxes, but wouldn't the country (let alone the world) be a better place if we all no matter what we made, instead of using deductions and such, gave the government 10% of our income? Would that eliminate poverty? No but it would be a step. One that no one will take.

Well, Karl Marx had a plan. So did Joseph Stalin. The only true way to have economic equality would be for workers to be assigned jobs and careers, and then be forced to do them. The government would run our lives. Obama was essentially using a glittering generality, and people can more or less determine their own destiny and take steps toward getting out of poverty. That being said, the government (and limited socialism) can ameliorate some of the problems that lower income individuals and families face.

Any good Socialist believes they can eliminate all Poverty through Redistribution of Wealth. It's right out of Marxism.
They fail to take into consideration the mental aspects of Poverty. The fact that many are in Poverty due to their own irresponsibility and bad choices which will never be resolved with money.

To be honest with you, whether realistic or not, what has been done by previous Presidents to eliminate or even decrease poverty? You know poverty is a condition that has always been around, but so was Polio. Why not let him "try" to help Americans? No one else is!!!

Barack Obama? No way. He's not tested. He's offered no Federal legislation by which one can render an informed electorate decision. What legislation he has offered in Illinois is not a valid basis for judgement about what he might do to/for America, or maybe it is. He offers sound bites that some people like. But as we have seen in the past with sound bites, we have ended up in trouble and are still in trouble. He has a large following and he will take votes from Hilliary. It should be a fun election season.

Personally the wrong man to be running for office at this time, maybe as Vice President, but surely not President. Because all the War issues will be placed at his feet and his African Heritage will make him the front man for responsibility if the situation worsens, which it will, before it gets better. He could be an excellent leader and get us out of this mess. Good luck to him.

One way is to establish a welfare system that prevents people from being so poor they starve. The problem I have is that many people will misuse such a system to give themselves a free ride. This will in turn hurt those really in need. I feel that people should be given assistance when needed, but for a limited duration. They should understand that if they don't work to support themselves as much as they are able, they will starve. That motivation to work has to be there.

I don't think he'll eliminate it but he sure could do a good job putting a big dent in it. No poverty will be around forever. It could be a lot less though.
