I believe it was decided that they would not renew his contract so he was killed off in the show. That's ashame because he was one of the original characters and even though they didn't have something for him now they didn't have to get rid of him. There was a huge campaign to keep him but that never seemed to work because it was decided long before the public new anything about it. Terrible decision in my opinion...........

Like the first person said, due to budget cuts. Some of the older actors, they pay a salary to so it doesn't matter how little their used, they get paid the same amount of money. They could have waited a while to kill him off though, since by contract they still have to pay him until August. I guess they just wanted to do it because it's "sweep" but at least he'll be around for a few months playing a ghost.

They didn't renew his contract and he was really pissed so they killed him instead of saying why don't you take awhile off and if you want and the story calls for it we can bring you back.

Probably because he doesnt have a good story line, or get that much screen time.
