Take your XBox back to the shop you bought it from, with your receipt. They will replace it for you. My son bought one just after Christmas, and has had to change it TWICE since then. The second time, just like Emma the replier here, they swapped his hard drive for him, so he didnt lose stuff. Touch wood this third one seems okay. The shop were not surprised at all at him taking it back, so I think it happens a LOT!

Hey
Just been pondering over your question.
Theres a few things you can do.
Look on your receipt. If you have had it LESS than the money back or exchange policy (say 5 days, and the receipt syas 14 days) there a two steps you can go by.
Call the shop you bought it from and tell them actually what is broken with it (ie did it come like that when you bought it or did it happen form some fault or you own). Usually in the first case the shop will accept responsibility provided its with in the money back restrictions i mentioned before;BUT BEWARE THEY MIGHT SAY CONTACT MICROSOFT.
If they do decide that you can return it, they might only offer a credit note or voucher to be used in the shop. This is no good if you want another XBOX as it usually is less than the true value of the XBox.
If so itr might be more worth your while actually getting in contact with Microsoft.
In my case when i called them I spent alot of money on the phone bill and alot of the peeps were nt very good at English, so if you dont want to fuss with that then go on the net. Look at MICRSOFTS website and email them your query in full.
Tell them how you broke it or damaged and just wait and see what they say. They may ask you to return the whole system and then send you a new one.
Or do what a friend of mine did. His machine fell of a table and the case cracked within the first week of buying it. He took it back to the shop and after much disagreement was told he would have to contact Microsoft. He did and told them thats how it was when he got it and he did nt crack it at all and said that it was a present that his mum had sent and it took 14 days to get to him thats why he didnt report it earlier and thus covering the returns policy clause.
He had to pay for postage and packaging and send it by recorded delivery but he gt the case fixed.

Just another idea if its only a minor break or damage why dont you see if there are independant xbox retailers on the net who may be able to do it for you without you having to see Microsft at all.

Anyway am sorry that was little long winded.
I hope that helps alot, let me know if you need more help!
Hope your problem gets sorted
Hugs
Fizzy

Guess it depends on how long you've had it.

(I heard That the 360's were crashing after one year - take a look at the BBC WATCHDOG website, may have more details there).

First, take it back to the shop with a receipt and ask for a replacement / refund. Under consumer law I think that they are responsible.

If you have no luck contact Microsoft - DON'T LET THEM FOB YOU OFF WITH A REPAIR OR A RECONDITIONED ONE.

Demand a new brand new one (I did hear from somewhere that they were replacing them for £80 - don't put up with this either) - You have paid a lot of money for the 360, and it is THEIR fault that the product is going wrong, they should sort it out without you having to fork out more money.

IF you get nowhere and are feeling Bloody minded - contact trading standards. As the 360 is worth over £150, you could take them to a small claims court. YOU WILL HAVE TO CHECK THE LAW ON THIS AT YOUR CITIZEN'S ADVICE. Basically if it goes this far Microsoft will become VERY helpful. 1) They will not want the publicity 2) If it does go to court and you win, it will open the floodgate for other claims.

Good Luck

did you watch the watch dog programme on bbc1 the other night they were on about this problemm with the 360. if i was you i would go back to microsoft who make the 360 and tell the that it is broken. have you any warrenty left cos if you have take it to the store cos by law unles they can prove that you intentionelly damaged it they have to replace or repair. did you get the 3 red lights cos with what they were saying on watch dog there is a lot of 360 doing this just after the warrenty has finished but if you did get 3 red lights it is done for the soft wesr has been damaged so you will need a new one. hope some or all of this has helped you

If you live in the UK wait for the PS3 to come out and buy that. Hopefully that would better than the Xbox 360. But you might be able to send it back to the shop you brought it from and get another one which is brand new and fully working.

I had a similar problem as my xbox broke when i first purchased it. A good idea is that you visit the xbox website and look at the diagnosis of what is broken and see if you can fix it yourself. If you cant then you can either do two things. Firstly if you have a receipt from where you purchased it, go back to the store and they will send it to microsoft themselves. OR contact microsoft and they will arrange for a carrier to pick it up from your house and send it to the microsoft headquauters in which they will send you a new one within 2 weeks. The number to call is on their website, and have a pen and paper ready as you will have to write down a reference number and your xbox with you as you will have to give the product number of the xbox which is located on the flap of the usb ports in the front.

About a man getting a new one, it depends entirly on the stores relationship with microsoft as most stores simply send it to microsoft for them to either replace or fix it for you.

If your 360 is less than a coupleof months old go back to the store you bought it from. You have a 12 month makers guarantee BUT your contract when you bought your 360 was with the shop not MIcrosoft. Take it back to the shop and stand your ground over who is responsible for its repair/replacement. Depending on how old it is they may replace it or just have it repaired.

In America the company has admitted a fault with the xbox, but will not do the same here!! Watchdog, bbc's consumer programme ran a story on it this week!!! Take the box back to the shop. If you get no joy, get in touch with watchdog they have an email address. Sorry don't know it..

Go and buy a new one stick the old one back in the new box and take back to the store and say you opened the box and the Xbox was broken, it is best to do this from a place like Argos, I got a broken LCD from Ebay and did this and it works !!!!! Good Luck

Send it back to xbox. The shop will probably argue that you broke it. Manufacturers normally replace or fix their items especially if you send it with a letter saying how dissapointed you are in a company of their standard.
