There is a small difference, but when ONE dealer runs short, they buy other brands, so you don't really know what you are pumping.

My brother, a former Texaco refinery manager, says paying a premium price and thinking you are getting superior fuel is a waste of money.

I personally buy the cheapest gas, usually Arco, and have NEVER had any fuel related problems with ANY of my cars I've owned for the last 20 years.

The only difference would probably be the use of additives (such as engine cleaning properties); other than that an 89 Octane gas from one station is pretty much the same as an 89 Octane gas at another, which also applies to other octane ratings as well.

Yes - the major brands contain more additives that help prevent the formation of carbon deposits and keep the injectors relatively free of fouling. (Like Chevron's Techron) Unbranded fuels contain less and may contain contaminates that are filtered out of branded gas at the refinery.

All Gasolines come from central storage pools,,they are traded like any commodity in the stock exchange,,,the different fuel companies use their own addatives and then call it their own brand.
But pretty much it starts out as one product.
