South Africa, along with Egypt, is the most popular place to visit in Africa. It is considered to be a safe travel destination in Africa, and so people interested in African travel often go to South Africa, because they are afraid of the travel risks in other African nations.

Also, South Africans speak English, so it is easier for South Africans to come here to ask and answer questions (which are written in English). It's more difficult for people from a nation that does not speak English to be able to comprehend English well enough to understand the questions and post answers. If you look at the Singapore section, it is also very popular, because, like South Africa, English is spoken in Singapore.

Because it is still the most modern country in Africa and the infrastructure developed by the previous white government is better than anything else in Africa. English is spoken in addition to other languages.
The country is blessed with spectacular scenery in all provinces, especially around the Cape and Drakensberg areas. One can go to modern cities and many game parks, Kruger National Park is the most famous with all the facilities and amenities a tourist may need.

Right now a lot of people are asking about the country because it is winter in the Northern Hemisphere and an escape to the warm summer in the southern hemisphere is a nice escape. Realize that So. Africa , Australia and New Zealand are the Eng speaking countries in that hemisphere.

Others are asking because South Africa is still in a transition from white to black rule, news stories about the escalating crime rate. It now has the highest crime rate in the world, rapes and assaults are common occurrences, highest incidence of HIV/AIDS at 43% of the adult black population. . . .all of these news stories draw interest

It's about the only place left on the continent that hasn't reverted to savagery and anarchy. And that may not be true for much longer. The only possible except is Egypt. The rest of the continent is pretty much headed back to the stone ages since most of the Europeans gave up and left.

Thats a bit of an exaggeration. In reality there is an ongoing battle between the denialist South Africans and the realists.
