OK, most gay people will fight tooth and nail that people are born gay, and that homosexuality is not a choice, but it is forced upon someone. Therefore, it should not be discriminated against, because they have no control over it.

I am not a big fan of homosexuality, and although I avoid the term "homophobic" (because I am not afraid of gay people), when people use that term they accurately describe my feelings. I refuse to watch a TV show or movie with homosexuality in it, and I feel uncomfortable hanging around with a gay person, male or female.

However, gay people automatically assume I am a bigot because I feel this way. What if I am born with homophobia, and I am as stuck with it as you are with homosexuality? If so, then when you criticize me, you are no better than the people you hate!

What do you guys think of that. Remember, there is no PROOF of either, but since you guys ARE gay, I am taking your word for it, for once.

***OK, using that logic, I say homosexuality is a mental sickness, and people are born homophobic. You still can't prove it either way.

I think your premise is all wrong...For instance plenty of white people are racist and do not like Blacks (and vice-versa) but do you really think they were born that way? Of course not, it's learned behavior.

"Phobic" actually means "averse to " or "avoiding of" so I think to describe you as "homophobic" is probably accurate. (If you have eyes which are very sensitive to light, it is called being "photophobic" i.e. "light averse.")

To your point, I think no one likes to be discriminated against on the basis of things they have no choice over. I am with the people who think that homosexuality is something one is born with. I have known too many people who really wish they were not gay, or are horrified to discover that they are gay. I really do not believe it's a choice, and to persist in thinking this (that someone would CHOOSE to be reviled, discriminated against, even hated) is just lightweight thinking.

Even believing that homosexuality is wrong and deviant (which I do) does not change my thinking that people are born this way. I also believe that people are born with certain propensities toward addictive behaviors, criminal behaviors and all kinds of things which are wrong...just as they are born with wonderful gifts and talents--a beautiful voice, or the inclination to persevere, great physical strength, etc.. I think the challenge is to channel our different gifts or shortcomings, with God's help, into a life that has meaning and purpose.

For instance, I believe that gays (just like all unmarried people) should be celibate. I'm not saying they are, it is merely an ideal, one which few attain, but something to strive for.

For you to completely shun an entire group of people because you don't approve of their sexual propensity will mean a lesser life for you. And I'm not talking about just the gay people you hurt or offend, either.

It seems like you're saying, "I'm not a big fan of homosexuals, but I'm not prejudiced." That's an oxymoron, dude. If you have an attitude that singles out people that you don't like based on their sexual preference, then you ARE, in point of fact, prejudiced, and you can be labeled a bigot.

On the other hand, you're allowed to be. No one is stopping you. It is still your mind, and you're allowed to think how you want. The only thing that polite society asks is that you don't try to ruin anyone's life because of your own ideals.

Some gay people are born that way, others choose it, but it's been proven (even in other species) that there is sometimes a chemical reaction in the brain that causes homosexuality. As far as homophobia, maybe you're right - maybe it is nature, and not nurture, that leads to it, but it's still usually hateful, and it is still usually practiced by people who don't know what it is they are fighting against, who are ignorant, and are unwilling to learn.

I don't know if I can buy that prejudice is something that anyone is born with, because it's a learned trait that falls along some very predictable demographic lines. So you're just going to have to deal with the criticism for what you are - a closed-minded person who is just looking for ways to confuse the issue rather than accepting that whatever God you believe in also made these people, and loves them just as much as He/She loves you.

Given the choice between accepting gay people and accepting homophobes, I'll side with the gay people. When's the last time you heard of a gay person committing a hate crime? Or hazing someone for not being gay? Yet they get it done to them pretty much all the time.

Your logic is badly flawed. Being "born homophobic" is not the same as being born gay, just as being "born bigoted" is not the same as being born black. You may avoid the term "homophobic", but that is certianly what you are. You have an aversion to even watching a TV program with a gay character. Why, because someone might think you are gay also? You are "uncomfortable" around gay people. Do you think they are going to molest you?
I am not gay, but I am not homophobic. I know plenty of gay people, and I could not care less what they do in their private lives. At least they aren't "heterophobic" about associating with me.

You are in fact still homophobic...

"I refuse to watch a TV show or movie with homosexuality in it, and I feel uncomfortable hanging around with a gay person, male or female."

You don't have to fear to be phobic (see phobia definition below), or homophobic for that matter. You avert/avoid yourself from something you're phobic about. You don't have to hate gays to be phobic or homophobic. Even just feeling uncomfortable is a phobic behavior. You can't really be uncomfortable without having a fear, that's what being uncomfortable is about , worrying something will/will not happen, fear of situation etc. I'm sorry but that's still fear. You may not hate us but you do have the fear. Good for you for not hating though.

For the sake of my facts I won't deny your theory that you're born with homophobia. I won't even suggest you try to get past/over it. In return I ask that you look into the books I put below. We are in fact born this way. These are studies done over a decade ago proving our homosexuality is inherent.

woah woah woah...first of all, how ignorant and unedcuated can you get? i'm sorry...i feel badly for you.

also, there is proof that BEING gay is in genes and possibly even determined for some before they are born (look into it genius!)
also, who would ever CHOOSE the gay life style when it is condemned so much by people like you? Are you kidding?

In addition, NO ONE is born with the know-how to hate and discriminate...that is something society teaches us. This is absolutely nurture over nature!! So no, you cannot be born with homophobia.

People are born black, white, hispanic, asian, gay, straight....NOT happy, funny, kind, and mean.

You need to really take a look at yourself and your stance on this...it's pretty sad.

If you refuse to watch a TV show or a movie with a homosexual in it, feel uncomfortable hanging around a gay person, and aren't a big fan of it, then what the hell are you doing thinking about it so much you get all worked up in a tizzy and then come over here and whine about it?

Buddy, aren't you old enough to know that if it makes you sick you don't play with it???

I don't have a problem with people who are merely "homophobic"; everyone is entitled to his or her personal opinion, so long as they don't infringe on my civil right to equal treatment and protection under the Law. Though I find it silly to claim that a taught prejudism is inborn. Otherwise, just as many people would be prejudiced against blacks, asians, and Jews as there were 100 years ago.

You can un-learn homophobia; it happens every day to mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters when they discover that a loved one is gay. You cannot un-learn "gay"; even so-called "ex-gays" admit that it's something they deal with on a daily basis for the rest of their lives.

no human being is born homophobic, there is no gene to dictate that. In what way do you freak out even as they discuss butt sex? if you're only unable to discover it eye-catching, you're only neither gay nor bi. if you're somewhat uncomfortable about it, that's popular because you've (probably) not in any respect had anal sex and the challenge would not look to look many times. If it particularly scares you, than possibly you do have an particularly phobia, that's unusual. even as someone makes use of the know-how homophobia, they advise something resembling racism yet for gays, no longer particularly worry of anal sex.

Born homophobic? You should use this expample instead.

Pedophiles: They are attracted to children, for love and sex, but yet everyone hates them, because their acts are crude and immoral.

It's not the pedos fault...they are born that way...they don't choose to be attracted to children...love is love...we need to stop being racist against pedos!...we are all pedophobic! Pedos need to have rights too! Pedos should marry children!...as gays say...love is love and everyone deserves to be happy. *I'm being sarcastic in case you didin't know*

Why doesin't anyone support pedos? They are just attracted to children....just like gays are attracted to the same sex.

You don't ever hear people say pedos are born that way. Pedos are that way for a number of reasons. Mental problems, They choose to be that way becuase there something about children that attract them, They way they were raised.

It's the same with homosexuality, both pedos and homosexuality are immoral acts. They choose because there is something about the same sex that attracts them, mental problems, maybe even how they were rasied.

Also pedos can and have changed their ways, and if they can do that, so can gays.

there is empirical evidence for homosexuality being an inborn trait, but being a bigot is entirely environmental - you can't be born homophobic, if you aren't raised with it, you don't have it, if you are raised with it, you have a very high chance.

there is a great deal of proof for both these facts, go to your local university psychology library, look into sexual psych., curing ignorance is the first step in curing bigotry.
