Would a company hire me if they knew I was pregnant?

I would keep the current job. You can't be discriminated against for being pregnant when looking for a new job. However, being pregnant means plenty of trips to the doctor, so you need to have health coverage. If you switch jobs now, there may be a waiting period for coverage. You could always pay COBRA during the waiting period, but that can be expensive and you will need to buy things for baby over the next few months. The best time to look for a new job would be during your maternity leave. That way you have lots of free time for interviews (provided someone can watch the baby) and research for a new job, something suitable for balancing career & family life. And you never know, you may decide in the end that your new job will be full time mommy :)

Many insurance companies do not consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition these days - so that may not be as big of a deal as some people think.

However depending on your state laws and the size of the company you go to work for, you may not qualify to have your new job held for you while on Maternity Leave. FMLA may or maynot protect your position, depending on how the company implements it.

A good company with solid people won't rule you out because of it, however, don't volunteer it. If you are showing, I would recommend not looking until after the baby is born and your FMLA at your current company has run out.

If you change jobs what happens to your insurance? The insurance at your new job will not cover your "pre-existing" condition.
Even if insurance is not an issue, good luck getting hired while pregnant. Even though it is not supposed to be legal to discriminate, employers do not want to hire someone who will be taking several weeks off soon. Even
Stay where you are for the moment.

First of all, they can't not hire you b/c you are pregnant, but there are "ways" around that. They wouldn't necessarily disclose that as being the reason why. If I could, I would wait until after the baby was born to look for another job.

I would stay at your current job. I don't think a new job can discriminate against you if you're pregnant, but they probably wouldn't take kindly to you starting your job and going on maternity leave shortly afterwards.

They won't hire you, stay where you are. You'll probably have to stay where you are after the birth as well, because they know you, and new company would not want to hire a mother with a baby.
