I think the government should ban smoking or stop profiting from it. Cigarettes are good income for them. They just don't want you doing it in public. Trust me, they'll find a way to ban it from your home.

What good does filming do them, if they don't have your name and address? Yes, as a general rule the government can install cameras in public places, and yes, those cameras could be used to see smokers, but as a practical matter I doubt it will make much difference by itself. As to undercover police, I see some need for them: if you saw a smoker violating the law, and you didn't know the smoker's name, how could you report that person? You'd have to call a phone number and by the time the inspector got there the smoker probably would have finished up and left.

I am a smoker. I don't mind not smoking in public buildings, even in restaurants. What does infuriate me is the new idea of banning smoking in your car if children are in the car! My children are grown; most do not smoke. No problem there. However, one of my daughters is a smoker & has two minor children. Is she going to be fined for smoking in the car she paid for; the children she brought into this world & is paying for their keep & providing for all of their needs? This law will not protect these children in her home, where she does smoke. I see this as a way for the government to take more rights away from people & a way to bilk the public.
It would seem to me that the police have better things to do than to start stopping people for something that is none of their business. What next, checking out our homes on the pretext of protecting children? Bull!

I am a non smoker and really feel like the government is starting to invade on individual rights. If they tell you where you can and cant do things then when will they stop. Prime example I know they passed a law banning smoking at bars, and I have heard rumors of other stated pssing laws to where they will ban smoking in cars. In your own car. Well then why dont they just tell you what radio station you should listen to and tell you which way you have to go on your way home. The government is now taking entirely too many liberties with our freedoms.

New laws cost money to enforce. If a new law is not enforced, it is a waste of taxpayer's money to enact. The reason laws are enacted is because some people cannot police themselves. If every smoker took personal responsibility not to smoke in a public place, the anti-smoking law would not have been enacted.
The sad truth is that some people cannot take personal responsibility for their actions, and so we make laws and have police.

You can't smoke inside or outside. next you won't be able to smoke in your own home and they have special detectors that go off if it senses smoke in the home and you'll be arrested! Welcome to the police state!
