Absolutely not. People do not attend Marti Gras for the "Family Atmosphere". It's a celebration of debauchery, and people who bring children should be prepared to explain questions like "Why are those two naked people wrestling over there?" The people who arrive in New Orleans are looking for a party. If you remove that aspect, they'll just head South to Carnival in Rio, and New Orleans will have no tourist income again- ever. Banning Alcohol from Marti Gras would violate the spirit of the event and destroy the fragile economy of an already crippled city.

No, I don't believe alcohol should be banned. People who are there are there to party and have fun. With the sheer number of people there, look at the statistics of how many arrests are made. Not many at all, just a few people stirring up s*** and being stupid. Everyone who goes to Mardi Gras is there for fun and partying, not violence.

I think it's a great American tradition, celebrating a definitive culture, but embracing all.

No way. Mardi Gras is a drinking holiday. There are plenty of "family holidays" that do not involve drinking, like Thanksgiving and Christmas. But Mardi Gras is in large part about drinking and celebrating.

Hell no...Mardi Gras is about indulgence before the season of Lent....which is traditionally a season of self sacrifice and denial of wordly pleasures....

So no. Drinking is basically what mardi gras is about....no banning

absolutely not, that's what people do when they go to Mardi gras parades and if you don't want to be around drunken fools, common sense should tell you to find another way to celebrate.
