My Iguana escaped from it's cage when I went to work. When I came back I was looking for it like crazy, but didn't find it and I gave up thinking it will show up for dinner. Anyway, later during the day I got cold and decided to close the window, which I did. Then I heard some racket by the window, I looked and my Iguana's fingers (is the correct term?) were stuck in the window. I had carelessly smashed them and two of them were chopped of from the very tip. I would say about 1 cm of the finger was cut off and is dangling from the finger. I washed its wounds but I don't want to pull off the hanging part... what do you suggest I do? I was thinking of waiting until it fell off by itself, go idea or bad??? Help!

First and foremost, GO TO A VET. You should wash with warm water and apply triple antibiotic in the mean time. Iguanas are good about self healing, however wounds like that can cause gangreen and other parasitic infections. You should also consider getting a different cage, if he could escape once, he WILL do it again. The appendages will likely fall off, but never "help" them come off, it will only make things worse. If there is bleeding, use stiptic powder(preferably), or corn meal to clot the blood. Make sure when you go to a vet that you see a reptile vet that is prepared for an iguana, most don't do reptiles.
You should really find a forum that will help you out a lot more. I reccommend either
herpcenter.com
or
greenigsociety.org
Both have great help forums with experienced keepers.

thhey very best thing that you can do if you really are serious about his problem is to take him to the animal hospital that way a qualified vet can make a diagionis and treat anything before an infection sets in

i know it's expensive, but you should take him to the vet. there's a chance that it will heal OK/fall off on it's own, but the risk of infection is pretty huge with this type of injury. you risk losing your friend for good.

people like this shouldn't own a pet if they don't know what to do when their pet's fingers get chopped off. IT IS COMMON SENSE!!!

put on some gentle antibiotics (neosporin) and take him to the vet. This could get seriously infected if you don't get some help.
