Rumors of commissioner Gary Bettman's pending departure escalated to the point where Bettman met them head-on last week and declared them baseless. But the stories that Bettman might step down -- or be forced out -- sooner than later do have some foundation. There are contentious issues among the teams and their commissioner, and the unbalanced schedule and U.S. television contract top the list. Bettman is right, of course, that not everybody is going to be happy with him all of the time, but he shouldn't do his usual head-in-the-sand bit on this one. At some point, Mr. Good of the Game must realize that means the league is moving on without him. . . .

He should step down. He was greedy and ruined the sale of the Pittsburg Penguins to by demanding last minute changes. Now Bettman doesn't want to change the schedule until he know whats going to happen to Pittsburg. Well, he had a chance and blew it. Gary Bettman should have smoothed out those negations. Instead, he was a thorn in their side. Read page two of the link about the telephone call with Bettman.

We can only hope. lets look at the things Bettman has screwed up so far this year:

1) TV contract with Versus- Lets put the NHL on a channel that nobody gets! That will sure increase popularity

2) The All Star Game- First of all, he put it on Versus, and on a Wednesday night instead of its usual weekend slot. This move convinced me that Bettman is a NBA plant.

3) Bigger nets- I don't think I need to be any more specific. If it happens, it will beat everything else on the list by far.

4) Unbalanced schedule- I personally don't think this is too bad, but it would be nice for each team to see the other 29 teams at least once a season.

Of course even he had his good side. He forced the salary caps which were desprately needed, even if we did lose a season because of it. And the new game rules seem to be working well, especially the shootout

We can only hope. Bettman did nothing but ruin the league. I can't believe he's actually talking of expanding the league again...all he sees is money, he cares nothing about league, even less about the game..
I think it's just a matter of time before he's forced out.

"Gary was at a game last night and got a souvenir puck in the first period!......he spent the rest of the game trying to open it.."

The polls he could be watching are those from the gamers. All in all, that's what could be maximum necessary to him is what his gamers think of approximately specific issues. I do think of its solid that he does ask the followers and makes use of a few of that enter to assist in making a number of his judgements, yet protection for the gamers and there happiness is whats key. Hockey followers at the instant are not likely everywhere! they're going to continually be watching the pastime and complaining approximately issues they do in contrast to, by using fact they do no longer could play the pastime! different then that, i think of he's doing a particularly first rate activity and haven't any beef with him. So he can stay, until eventually he does something incredibly stupid. Worse then the Shootout element!!! properly, in basic terms approximately as undesirable, in view which you extremely won't be in a position to get any worse then that to the pastime of hockey. Ask a Maple Leaf participant and/or Fan what they think of approximately shootouts now!! I comprehend what your asserting yet on the comparable time how do you think of the NHL and the followers might experience if somebody youthful and gifted like Crosby had his provider ended on a bad call. If it wasn't for the gamers in the NHL, you does no longer seize the countless fan base, and without that......they does no longer seize the money they do. human beings bag on professional game stars for the quantity of money they get for the video games they play, yet in all actuallity, why do no longer they deserve it. they are the Elite of what they do and and in case you had the expertise/threat to be in there footwear, do no longer tell me you does no longer desire the money the two. If it become being provided! Heck Personnally, hockey gamers are the main under paid activities stars in the international! They positioned up extra to threat with there destiny well being and for the affection of the pastime in basic terms approximately extra then each and every person else in the different game. Minus soccer. yet maximum soccer gamers in easy terms care approximately them selves, no longer the group or franchise!

That would be a dream come true. He has destroyed hockey and expanded the league to the point that there is only one good line per team now!!
Need to shut down Minnesota, Tampa, Columbus, and Nashville to get quality teams back.
What a nerd chump loser he is. He shouldn't have been hired in the first place.

His contract runs through 2012 and he's a hero to the owners for solidifying the salary cap. I doubt he's going anywhere, but Brian Burke should be given the job if it becomes available.

I've actually spoken to the man a few times and he seems to be an intelligent person with a good knowledge of the game and good intentions.
On the other hand,
He also makes decisions that place him at the top of my BONEHEAD LIST and has ruined the sport for fans and players alike
But he is smart enough to know a good thing when he sees it and I doubt he will step down voluntarily from his position
So.......
Let's kill him

Hes turning the sport into baskatball. How do you pick someone with no prior NHL experience as a player, coach, general Manager, etc...?

I think he almost has to. Considering the lock out, losing ESPN TV deal, attendance not back to what it was before, no major changes to try to make the sport more popular in the US!

Think it is time for a change!!

I dont blame him for all the NHL's problems, but I think a new blood would be a step in the right direction.
