For months now I have been excited for the upcoming military ball. I had been told that even though my date was not military, I would still be allowed to wear a dress and get all pretty, but just today I was told that not only do all military members have to wear their uniform, reguardless of who their date is, but that I have to go to the ball to work. To write a news story about it for the monthly newsletter at state headquarters. All I was looking forward to was the chance to have a fun evening out and, its cheesey, but kind of get the prom experience I didn't have in high school. Now that they've ruined that, I'm just going to go, get my story and leave. I wont bring a date and stay and socialize or anything. I'll just do my job.
But I still would like a chance to get that experience of dressing up for a ball like event. What other opportunities are there like that out there?
Dont know if I am posting this in the best area, but here goes!

I know it sounds silly and frivolous, but the thing that disappoints me the most is that I have to wear a uniform. I'll carry a camera and shoot pictures any day of the week, but I just wish I could do this in the dress I've got (and other than my sisters wedding which it was purchaced for, will probably never wear again). I wish I could bring my boyfriend and have fun, you know? Imagine if you had been forced to go to your prom in a pants buisness suit. Not very much fun, is it?

Great question! Who ever enjoyed their prom anyways? Okay, I did. but most of it was just dancing, eating at a great restaurant and having a great time with friends. Now, correct me if I'm wrong but can't you do this anytime of the week? So, grab your girlfriends and some dates, get dressed up and spend the night on the town at some posh restaurant and drink great wine then follow with an evening of dancing or however else you'd like to spend the day....if you want to make it even more exciting travel to a great metro area nearby for the weekend and follow the steps of nighttime dining above...I promise you that there will be nothing like it...you'll finally realize that the prom was just an afterthought.

Oh and planning is the best part of making your night out with friends a wonderful fun occasion, so go shopping with your best girls, get the perfect makeup, hair and outfit together...you'll want to experience prom over and over again but in real time.

just go and do your job there will be other balls and maybe you will be able to enjoy them...that sounds bad but you know what I mean my dad was in the army and my parents had functions to go to all the time so you will have other opportunities to maybe enjoy and not have to work
