Some women experience symptoms prior to labor and some don't. Some symptoms (loss of mucous plug, dialation, irregular cramping/contractions, "nesting", ect) can mean labor is right around the corner or it could mean labor will start in 2-3 weeks. I never had any "signs" that labor was going to start, it just did.

So these are the kind of symptoms you're likely to experience as your earliest warnings that this is the real thing and you're going to get to meet your baby relatively soon:

Backache
Menstrual-like cramping
Indigestion
Diarrhea
A feeling of warmth in the abdomen
Bloody show (the passage of blood-tinged mucus)
A trickling or gushing sensation if your membranes have ruptured

Bear in mind you may only have a couple of these symptoms, so don't wait for them all to occur. A lot of women also report feeling restless, edgy, and generally uncomfortable as their body prepares for labor.

I had diarrhea for a couple of days-bad. I was crampy, bloated, restless, lost my mucous plug (I didn't know what it was at the time though) the baby wasn't moving too much either. I just felt ready if that makes any sense. My sister saw me the day before I went into labor and even she said, you look ready.
I did the whole nesting thing too. I cleaned everything and washed all the baby's clothes and got her room ready. That was the week before. the other symptoms were days before.

I didn't have any symptoms that I was going into labor, Went to my doctor had a checkup, after that my water broke, never had any pains at all, I had an easy labor, but the month leading up to labor was horrible, I would wake up in the middile of the night wiht this horrible pelvic pain. good luck

A burst of energy and a nesting need to get things clean and ready. Lower abdomen pressure and or pain. Irregular contractions that turn regular even when you are sitting down. Mucousy bloody discharge. Irritability, anxiousness..

There is something that is called nesting. It is a burst of energy! I cleaned my house all day and made sure that everything was in order and ready to go. A week later I had my little one.

losing your mucous plug is one way, usually can happen hours to days before. when contractions that are painful start and become consistent in frequency and occuring closer together then you will know your in labor.
