I think police officers are their own society. By this I mean, they are separated from the rest of society because of their place as enforcers.
They are not always there for the best of society, but that is just some of them. There are officers who are corrupt and when they are found out, they cast a bad light on the rest of the police officers.
Police officers have a bad relationship with the lower classes. It's a combative relationship, volatile. The society doesn't trust officers and to refute it, the officers have to be put in very uncomfortable situations.
Police officers are humans. They have the same problems as everyone else. They're just elevated, and that can be very hard to deal with, especially when a cop does something wrong. Who can say anything and be expected to be heard? Police officers are officers of the law...they protect and enforce it. When an officer breaks the law, it's harder to trust officers.
It's tragic. Police aren't as effective as it's viewed. But it's not all their fault. They are hindered in many ways by lies, confusion, and silence.
Put it this way...it's a civil war -- and no one is on the side of the US.

Police are OK by me, Back in the 20's and 30's they were better more people oriented "Constable On Patrol" or COP Now with the Police car they don't talk to people as much and everyone is afraid they'll get pulled over for something. So there alright

Police perform one of the toughest jobs in the country - they form the "thin blue line" that protects us from the thugs, creeps & psychos who would rob, rape & kill us. There are a few bad ones (I'm not naive), but by & large, they are ethical & perform an often thankless job for pay that is not commensurate to the dangers they face. Especially when you see the money that so many airhead pop culture, sports & movie stars make who contribute nothing more than the "crassification" of the culture.

They are humans such as we all are and are working to support their familys just have a more dangerous job. That they are police officers does not lower them any to me. I have lots of respect for them and yes I have been in to trouble a few times. some can be crooked and others are only trying to ,make ends meat while protecting us. If you really knew me you would freak that I am saying this about police, but they are all human also.

I thank them for putting their lives on the line every day. I got three speeding tickets in 3 months some years ago. At first I was mad, but, it took the lead out of my foot. Now that I'm older I think maybe they saved my life.

You know...I've had a few DUI's in my life, and eveytime they stopped me I would of course be belligerent, but they saved my life, and no telling how many others by getting me off the road...they put up with a lot of s***, and protect a lot of folks for not much pay and not much appreciation..I think they do the best job they can and I got no complaints.

They have a job to do just like everyone else. Having recently been arrested, I don't have any hard feelings against the officer who arrested me.

this one I can answer honestly because I used to be one. The majority of them are ok and above board, but MANY of them are crooked and totally disobey the laws they enforce. Ever notice them speeding, and you follow them, and they stop at the coffee shop? Yet, if you came whizzing by them, they would pull you over and give you a ticket!

there are a few that i have met at bars while they were off duty and they are pretty decent people but some are a holes as well. i dont like to be around any cop in uniform though. it makes me really paranoid and uncomfortable. i most definatly would not trust any cop though. they are real scandolas people and will lie to you in a heartbeat.
