Not all Southerners are hateful of homosexuals, but you have to realize that is the Bible Belt and homosexuality is against the rules in the Bible.

A better question might be why are southerners so hateful, period. But, to answer your question: the roots of southern prejudice against homosexuality rise out of their blind, irrational clinging to the most rabid interpretations of the bible.
