I am 36 weeks and was wondering.. What does it feel like when your water breaks? This is my first pregnancy and I have been scared that I won't "know" even though everyone tells me different. What did it feel like to you, if you don't care explaining? I've heard different feelings or types.

With my daughter, I didn't have the big gush of water. I had a leak. It felt like I peed myself at first. But when it didn't stop trickling and it had no odor either, I figured I had a leak (I was 40 weeks). If you are unsure, just go get checked, that's why they are there.
With my son, I had a gush of water. I had to change my cloths and then it just kept trickling after that.
More often than not, you know when your water breaks.
When it breaks, if your not already at the hospital, make sure you go. Even if it's a leak. I waited 15 hrs to go in, because I called the hospital and the nurse on call that night (8 p.m.) said I could wait until morning early afternoon to come in, but the Doctor was furious. The risk of infection goes up when your water breaks and they try to have the baby delivered with in 24 hrs after. If not, they will put you on antibiotics to help decrease the risks of infection.

I have had three different experiences so sit down and relax...The first time I was pregnant with twins and I thought I had not finished peeing. I had to go really bad and I finished but as I was walking away from the bathroom Niagra Falls was working its magic on my overalls. Second time I had cramps and with lack of knowledge(I didnt know u can leak) everytime I did a little bit of force a little water seemed to leak so I paid no mind to it until the next morning when I saw blood spots. Last time I was standing in the WIC office when I sneezed and I felt water drip down my leg. So even one person can have different symptoms...if u think something is up just go to the doc better safe than sorry.

You cannot miss it!

You will feel a LOT of warm water running down your legs and pooling at your feet. You cannot miss the water breaking at all. It should be clear. If not, if it is a funny brown or green or yellow, call your doctor IMMEDIATELY.

It felt funny to me. It happened just as I yelled at my husband, "You promised not to do any lsd until after the baby comes! What will happen if my water breaks tonight?" POP! Idiot was still seeing trails when I was pushing her out.

My water broke at just that moment. We were on the back porch of my downtown walk-up flat.

Birthing your first child is frightening if you listen to all the people who tell you bad stuff. I think some women got a kick out of trying to scare me. The first woman I told said, "You know they will take a knife and cut your privates open to get the baby out."

That terrified me. So I got a library book with photos of episiotomies so that I knew.

Ignore all the negative stuff.

After it was all over and I was holding my first baby, part of my Ecstasy was looking at her. Part of it came from knowing I had succeeded in giving birth, was now a card-paying member of the human race, a link in the chain. LIKE EVERY OTHER WOMAN> It was a great feeling and you will have it too!

First let me start by saying the whole "if your water brakes you'll know it" thing isn't always true. You have to pay attention to your body! I went into labor with my daughter on Thursday night and didn't go to the hospital until Sunday night. My water had been broken for a while but I didn't know it because it was just leaking a little bit at a time because of the way my daughters head was positioned. So I thought I was just having a little bit of a bladder problem. If you pay attention to whats going on with your body then you will know it. If you start leaking check and make sure its urine if it doesn't have a smell then you need to call your doctor. Also trust your gut! I did call my doctor that Thursday night because I had some mild cramps but he told me " Hun if you were in labor you'd know it" well I should have listened to my gut and gone into the hospital that night. Everything worked out fine thou. You'll be fine! CONGRATS!!! I know it's scary but everything will be just fine.

I was scared also about not knowing. When it happened for me, I was at my doctors office getting checked, I asked the nurse that I am leaking and they said that it is normal after a checkup.. I left and went to visit my grandma in the hospital and I just kept leaking, I called and they said that my water is broke. When it happenes you will go to the bathroom and a couple min later you will feel wet and your underwear will get soaked. I drove myself to the hospital and they broke the rest there. If your not sure when it happenes call your doctor and they will tell you.. good luck and believe me, i was scared that I wouldn't know or I wanted answers for everything. Just stay calm and good luck. The labor for me wasn't bad at all.. Get the shot!. It's soooo excited, but your body goes through a shock. now I am worring about my son having a cold. lol... Congrats

I didn't have my water break on it's own in either this pregnancy or in my first, but you definitly know when it happens. If it's a slow leak it'll feel like you've peed yourself, and you continue to be wet... very uncomfortable. If it's a gusher... well you'd know LOL.
When the docs broke mine it gushed all over, very warm, and very wet... ewwie

You will be wet. You will not miss your water breaking. I just felt a warm gush of water all of a sudden. That is all. Mine leaked for a week first. Clear water ran down my legs every so often during the day, then it completely broke later on.

Not everyone's water breaks. 3 of my friends that had babies, their water didn't break when they were in labor. The doc had to pop their bag. My water broke when I was asleep. I woke up & my sheets were drenched. I stood up & water poured out of me. Then the contractions started! Amniotic fluid has a sweet smell to it. It doesn't smell like piss @ all. You'll know the difference.

If your water breaks You'll know!! It feels like someone just drenched you in water. It's not a little thing and it's not slow. Happens fast and all at once. Chances are they may have to break your water bag. I was scared with my first but you know when things are happening. It's unmistakeable. Mom to three here.

You cant feel it break. But it will be like you are peeing on yourself. Lol.. Your contractions will get stronger and stronger. When your water does break you need to get to the hospital asap. Good luck.
