This answer is best perhaps for a woman or a well-organized man: I have an exceptionally small bedroom with a decent-sized closet. I just switched from an uncomfortable full size to a comfy single bed. I have clothes on the floor and papers and books, one small shelf, one desk and some pictures on the wall. I can't seem to figure where to start. Sometimes I straighten up, but I never seem to really clean like I used to. Any suggestions on getting organized and staying that way. PLEASE HELP! Thanks!

hello Mik, well as you say you have a decent size closet , perhaps you should start there , at least you don´t have to move your clothes every night to get into bed, hang up as much thing´s as you can , no need to do all in one day , the way I do things is set my clock for 15 min´s at a time , I learned this little trick from a really great web site, www.getorganizednow.com when you get the chance look this up . you will get great ideas from really friendly folks. as I was about to say , set your alarm clock to go off in 15 min´s , see how much thing´s you can get done in this time. when the clock alarm sound´s ,stop what you are doing if you feel that you´d like to carry on then do so , if you think you have worked enough then stop and have a rest . Just keep doing this until you get the job done, so ( clothes of the bed & into the closet , trouser´s shirts ,on hanger´s ) shoes , belts , underware etc. all to the closet . stop that´s enough for one day . then tomorrow , fix some paper work , but I suggest you go to the site , trust me you will be on top of all your problems and well and truely organized . hope I help you a little not to good at explaining , but quit good at being Organized

You should buy a wheeled plastic drawer set from WalMart & stick it in your closet, install a few shelves more on your wall from Home Depot (or anwhere), and buy some binders for each of the things you need those papers for (or a very large one with dividers). Any time you can shove something in a drawer and close the door, you're officially organized! And buy a Swiffer Sweeper-- it works and your uncarpeted floor will thank you. I swear by bins-- if you have a bunch of things in the same category, just have them in the same bin. You'll always find the bin and you have a better guarantee of finding what you're looking for. Buy a laundry sorter-- even if you don't actually use it, your dirty clothes will LOOK organized as long as they're in there! Runs about $20.

I don't know if you ever heard of her but the website is www.flylady.net. She is a dear woman that starts you off with babysteps to a cleaner house. The first thing she has you do is shine your sink and it seems wierd but it really works. You end up just doing a little a day and your house stays cleaner than it ever has. I have 3 kids and it worked for me. It will help you know where to start and help you keep it clean. Good luck!

I would start by categorizing all of my belongings (books, clothing, etc.). Also, given your limited amount of space, you might want to consider getting rid of some stuff (donate it to Salvation Army or Goodwill). Keep an empty basket in the corner of your room to drop in items when you don't have time to put them where they belong, so you don't create clutter in the meantime. Get bins and boxes to store items you don't use regularly. Make sure they are sized properly to store in your small room. I hope this helps.

Just google "organizing the home" or some similar phrase. It will bring up myriads of websites that can help you out.
