Yes, but you need a crossover cable with the transmit & receive pairs crossed over, rather than a standard cat 5 patch cable.

RJ45 referrs to the jack type not the cable. You want to use Cat 6 cable and attach RJ45 connectors at each end using the crossover pattern.

You will need a crossover cable.
You could make it yourself or buy it from a vendor like Frye's or www.cablesupply.com. Unless you already have a RJ45 crimper and cable I would recommend just buying one. If you need a lot it may be cheaper for you to make them but that all depends on how much time you have.

You can't use a regular RJ45 cable. It has to be what is called a Crossover cable.

Yes, it is the same as using a hub. You just right click on folders or files or drives and select sharing, then setup what you want to share between the computers. When you click on My Network Places you should be able to browse computers on network and see the files shared by the other computer.
