kre8iv4u2002: there's a big difference between 'people' responding and FEMA responding. FEMA is Federal. They can't just roll in and and take over a scene, they must be invited. If it takes a state 3 days to invite them, then it takes FEMA three days to respond.

Chris_schemes: that is the most emotional response ever. Maybe Yahoo answers has a juvenile, emotional trainwreck section where people like you can go while adults participate in actual political discussion.

Actually, I'd like to see a whole army of citizens go to New Orleans and get the residents of a destroyed neighborhood together and have an old fashioned building party with individuals and charitable organizations providing the materials. I'd like to see someone with knowledge of building permits and inspections and how they work in New Orleans to facilitate the inspections of all these things and I'd like to see the people who are living in the houses, or who belong in those homes and neighborhood involved in the construction. If they have to help rebuild, then it will get done quickly. I'd also like to see the Media visit these neighborhoods during Mardi Gras and show the world what community spirit, individual charities and hard work can do to improve the situations at no cost to the Government and without involvement of the Government. It's called people empowerment! We need to kick the government out of our business and get back to running our lives. I'd be happy to join that group and have a Mardi Gras type party every night before going to bed. Red Cross, Salvation Army, Churches, How about some good old fashioned neighborhood rebuilding? Let's take our country back from a do-nothing, money grubbing, sell out government!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nobody had a problem with victims of prior hurricanes or FEMA's response to those other hurricanes before katrina......then FEMA doesn't respond, people suffered for many days after katrina and now you want to do away with something that worked many times before? If your town was under water you'd want people to just ignore you? No emergency response? You're a fool!

Where does living in "the land of the free and the home of the brave" have to do with the victims of Katrina? If you live in the United States, that is where you live! Try living in Darfur of in Iran, okay? Oh, what about North Korea? (No effense to those of that nationality. . .) People live where they want, and if they want to live in Tornado Alley or where Hurricanes are, they want to live there. . .

I'm sick of it. The bastards need to rebuild and stop complaining. We did a fundraiser for them that generated almost $12,000, plus other fundraisers and government aid, they need to get off their asses and rebuild.
