I actually have tried to put a real picture on there instead of Yahoo's silly Bratz doll avatar, but there didn't seem to be an option for it. How do I put a proper pic on there?

Easy.
go to your 360 page and go to my page, edit preferences
there you can save any pic from your PC or from internet in "jpg." format
save and bring into your pics on 360
in your MYQ&A section there is a option to display your other picture instead of Yahoo pic

i haven't been in a position to elevate Yahoos avatar web site for the previous six months. i spotted the day in the previous right this moment that a lot of contributors had those orange avatars. perchance Yahoo ran out of colorings.

I've been thinkin on changing mine, but I just love the spinny pink glasses thing.
