I can't give you personal experience answers to your specific question but will say this... I have owned both species you mention and was not dumb enough to try to put them together. Hope that spells it out without getting too textbook lol

Definitely not. I can't relate any personal experience, and I doubt you will find many who can, because I can't fathom anyone putting an arowana with a discus.
I know you don't want a text book answer, but there a number of reasons that you could never keep the two together. The first is tank size. Discus are schoolers - a few discus would need a 50 gallon tank. An arowana, on the other hand, needs at least a 150 gallon tank.
The second is water requirements. Discus thrive in the high 80's. That's too high for arowanas.
And of course, size. A healthy captive arowana can grow longer than 24" and could / would eat a discus.

So, no. Considering the price of each fish and their specific requirements, it would not be wise to combine the two.

Oscar and arowanas are both quite aggressive and active fish. Discus are quite shy and prefer still water without a lot of action going on in the tank. They may be able to hold their own against bullies if need be, but would be stressed and hiding most of the time. Discus also need warm water and can't handle as much ammonia as the oscars can. The discus could live in there for awhile, but wouldn't thrive and probably keel over from stress related illness. And what Ian said... starvation would probably be first.

Never had much luck with Discuss however I have had several Arowana's.
Discus are pretty mellow-Arowana's -in my experience-are pretty agressive and hiper-I don't think it would be a good mix-no matter what sized tank. I have seen my 12" arowana go after my 16" pleco

What size aquarium? I hope it is HUGE....like 300 gallons...even then it probably won't work out...arowana are more aggressive than Discus.
