I think its Peee-ewwww! Dragged out pew...which is just the sound you make involuntaryily when something smells bad.

P.U. is a stylized abbreviation that stands for the sound of disgust ("pew!" or "peeyoo!") that one might say upon smelling something rotten.
It was often used in popular culture such as Warner Brothers cartoons. Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck or Porky Pig might say it in an appropriate situation.
It was taken to a logical absurdity in the cartoon The Dover Boys, in which their college was described by the narrator as "Pimento University... Pimento U... good ol' P.U.".

An common English interjection is "phew", often used to indicate an unpleasant smell. "PU" is a poor adulteration of the word by those who don't read widely.
