SERIOUS help only, please. This is painful enough, already.

I have been in the middle of a miscarriage for a week, now. I have been spotting, but have not really done more than that. My midwife says that a D&C might be necessary but I can't handle that. Has anyone heard the name of a pill or herbal treatments that help things move along? I want to know my other options. Thank you.

Let me clear something up. I do plan on talking about these options with my midwife. She just has not mentioned anything as another option and I have heard that there may be a pil that a doctor can provide. I want to know what it is before I ask her about it. The more informed I am, the less pushed around I will feel.

I truly sympathize with you..... I have had 3 miscarriages, and two ectopic pregnancies.......one night I woke up and was bleeding extremely severely, and wasn't preg.......... I had a miscarriage months before (sorry to be soo graphic).... I never saw a doctor or had a DNC.....so, particles had continued to grow...I went to emergency (otherwise I was going to bleed to death literally) they gave me an IV drip of something that causes contractions, and passed it and was better in 2 days with no D&C....... Sometimes hemerraging occurs when these things go untreated.... you don't need a midwife, you need a doctor.

I would go to a DOCTOR for an ultrasound and advice on whether the pregnancy is still viable. Spotting is not necessarily a miscarriage unless you are passing clots. Spotting is actually normal during pregnancy for some women. I spotted in my 12 week and thought that was the end, but had a healthy baby anyway. Get a second opinion. I know it's hell not knowing and I think you deserve some comfort. Good Luck.

The mid-wife is correct and a D&C could not only be necessary it can save your life and your ability to concieve again later. Don't look at the procedure in a bad light it is simply a process to help your body finish the job it has already begun. An infection can occur if you delay any longer and that can cause sterility. Follow the recomendation of the midwife and get the D&C. Good Luck!

Unfortunately, sometimes your body doesn't get rid of everything naturally, and a D&C is needed to prevent an infection. A D&C is done so you are completely unconscious and will wake up in the recovery room when it's all over. I don't know of anything that will speed up a natural miscarriage.

You have a very good option. It's called the doctor. You need something to dilate your cervix and if your "midwife" knew her business, she'd tell you what to use. I have a feeling you're trying to abort yourself and that's just so wrong on so many levels. Go to a doctor!

You really need to see an OB doc. I have never heard of a miscarriage lasting a week. It may be possible that you aren't going to fully abort, and retained products of conception is a very very dangerous condition. The D & C may be your only choice.

I'm very sorry. I can't imagine how painful this is for you. PLEASE get reputable medical advice on this, rather than trusting it to the Answers peanut gallery. Your health is too important to risk. I'm sure that a doctor would weigh the D&C trauma (physical and emotional) against the risk of letting this process continue. The possibilities for infection are huge if you keep (I'm sorry) dead tissue inside you.

Please talk to your doctor.
