The first thing you need to do, is cut the stem properly. The best way to do this, is to fill your sink with a few inches of water.Submerge the rose stem, horizontally, (not the flower)under water, using SHARP garden clippers or scissors, make an angled cut, while the stem is under water. Take a minute or two to do this, it will allow the stem to absorb and collect water into the entire stem. Place the rose into vase. You can use florist "food packet" Or use , same amount of water to equal amount of SEVEN-UP. You can cut the stem a little bit every day. The water can be of medium temperature. Good Luck and Enjoy!

Use the stuff in the water that the florist provides. Trim the stems at an angle about an inch off each day. That should do it. They claim you can make a rose last a week or ten days that way. I have never been so lucky.

put a plain asprin in the water. Then, if you want to preserve it, when it first starts to wilt, hang it upside down from a string and let it air dry in a warm place-will last forever. I have a whole bouquet of the dried ones that I got over 12 years ago. Makes nice pot pourrie too. Or, snip the head off and put it in a pretty teacup-it will dry out on its own.

every time you change the water make sure you use warm water make sure its slightly warm. I do this with all my flowers and they live for a long time. I found this out through the little package of flower-food that was tied around the flowers with a rubber-band and it works great.
