The Rolling Stones
They've adapted through evrery Rock genre and have made some of the best songs of all time. One would have to pick a band with a solid track record with some longevity. Rock wouldn't be the same without the Stones.

LED ZEP. i like most of everything else listed, but they're by far the most achieved/most prolific/best instrumentalists in the group (of those named, i mean)
(i am a die-hard TOOL fan....too awesome....and maynard has been known to do more than one led zep cover!!!)
